JCHS girls tennis
CARMEL - Jay County High School No. 1 doubles duo extended their season a couple of weeks after the close of team play. But the tournament run came to an end Saturday.
Tiffani Bickel and Cindy Muhlenkamp fell in the opening round of the doubles regional, losing 6-3, 6-1 to juniors Elizabeth Bremer and Madison Leslie of West Lafayette.
Muhlenkamp and Bickel, who finished the year at 16-7, never led in the match as the teams held serve through the first five games. Leslie and Bremer broke Bickel's serve to go up 4-2, Jay County broke back to make it 4-3 and then West Lafayette won back-to-back games to end the set.
Bremer and Leslie took the opening to games of the second set. After giving up one to the Patriots, the West Lafayette duo racked up four in a row to finish off the victory.
Bickel and Muhlenkamp reached the doubles regional with tournament wins over teams from Mississinewa, Delphi and Maconaquah.
Leslie and Bremer went on to defeat Kristin McKinney and Devyn Wafer of Delta 6-3, 6-2 in the second round Saturday to advance to the state finals. They are 20-2 on the year and have won eight tournament matches.[[In-content Ad]]
