Patriots remain perfect

Jay County Roundup

Jay County’s baseball team cruised past Fort Wayne South Side Saturday, improving to 3-0 with a 10-1 win over the Archers.

The Patriots put up four runs in the first inning and two in the second, which was more than enough for a crew of four pitchers who combined for a two-hitter. They added two runs in the fourth and one each in the fifth and the sixth.

Adam Homan — fresh off a three-homer, six-RBI effort the night before at Fort Recovery — was a perfect 3-for-3 against Fort Wayne South Side. All three of his hits were doubles, and he had a pair of RBIs.

Heath Williams was 2-for-2 with a couple of stolen bases.

Chad Keen started and gave up the lone Archer run, which was unearned. He allowed one hit while striking out six and walking three.

Trent Bailey, Matt Champ and Cameron Hummel each tossed one inning of scoreless relieve.

Jay County will play at home Monday against Marion at 4:30 p.m.

Jay 12th at Yorktown

The Jay County golf team placed 12th out of 13 teams at its opening meet of the season Saturday in the Yorktown Invitational with a score of 379. Host Yorktown won the event with a 310, and Delta scored a 326 to place second.

The Patriots were led by Tyler Johnston, who came in with an 88. Alex Hunt shot a 90, Adam Foster was next with a 95 and Jesse Shawver scored a 106.
