Local Roundup

BERNE — The home-court advantage wasn’t enough to extend the South Adams volleyball season.

The Starfires, hosting the sectional tournament, dropped out in the first round Thursday with a 25-10, 25-23, 25-16 loss to the Heritage Patriots. Heritage advances to play Adams Central in Saturday’s semifinal round after the Class 2A No. 1 Jets thumped Fort Wayne Harding 25-10, 25-10, 25-7 Thursday.

Robyn Habegger, Renee Neuenschwander and Brooke Fox shared the team high of six kills in South Adams’ final match of the year.

Fox also had team highs of 12 digs and six blocks. Habegger finished with 11 digs and two aces.

Alyssa Miller put up 20 assists, and Kara Ross totaled five blocks.

Patriots honored

Two more Jay County athletes picked up Academic All-State honors this week. Adding to the list of Patriot honorees were boys soccer players Trent Bailey and Sean Adams.

Bailey and Adams join fellow Patriots Brianne Morrical, Julie Sours, Erin St. Myers, Angie Hilgeford and Jessica Heitkamp in earning state academic honors.
