For the second year in a row, the Society of Professional Journalists has honored Samm Quinn for her work with Franklin College’s TheStathouseFile.com.
Quinn, now The Commercial Review’s city reporter, earned honorable mention for coverage of government or politics. She was honored at a banquet May 2.
The SPJ award was for a series of stories Quinn wrote revealing a large number of students had used vouchers to move to schools that had lower ratings than their original institutions. She had earned first place in the same category in 2013 for her coverage of Right to Work legislation.
Local agent

Debra Grider, an American Family Insurance agent in Portland, was recently recognized for providing outstanding customer experience under the American Star Excellence in customer experience certification.
She has been an agent for American Family, located at 1409 W. Votaw St., since February 1997.
Corporation expands
Mursix Corporation, a manufacturer of precision components, recently announced it plans to expand its headquarters in Yorktown, which will create up to 108 new jobs by 2017. The Indiana company will invest $7.1 million to expand and equip its headquarter facilities and add 75,000 square feet of manufacturing space to the existing 175,000 square-foot building.

A judge recently said he will take 30 days to issue a ruling on the status of the Wells County Area Plan Commission’s approval of 68 wind turbines in the county. The commission approved in August the development plans for the 68 industrial wind turbines, and six couples filed a lawsuit that challenges the approval less than 30 days later.[[In-content Ad]]
