Recovery victorious again (09/22/03)

The Fort Recovery volleyball team recorded a third straight victory Saturday with a 15-11, 16-14 victory over the Anna Rockets.

The Indians (8-3) got another outstanding match from Joscie Kaup, who had 20 assists, six points and 12 digs. She also blasted nine kills, one back of Briget Metzger’s 10.

Metzger also had eight blocks, and Jenn Stahl led the team with 12.

Krystal Rammel scored eight points, followed by six from Julie Grube. Megan Wenning picked up 11 digs, and Jennalee Post had seven assists.

The junior varsity team suffered its first loss of the year to Anna 10-15, 15-8, 15-13.

Vicki Roessner paced the Indians (7-1) with six blocks, six kills and 11 assists. Kelly Link had eight digs and four blocks, while Brenda Rindler added four blocks and seven digs.

Ciera Rammel had 10 points, and Jackie Wenning had nine to go along with six digs. Jennalee Post had 12 assists, and Kristen Schwieterman had six digs.

Fort Recovery will play at home today against Bath at 6 p.m.

Fort last in MAC

The Fort Recovery boys golf team played in the Midwest Athletic Conference golf tournament Saturday, placing 10th with a score of 423.

Versailles won the event with a 315. St. Henry was second with a score of 334, and St. Johns places third at 338.

Dusty Tobe placed 47th with the top Fort Recovery scored, a 98. William Nofziger shot a 52, Todd Post was next with a 53 and Sean Kahlig had a 110.

Jags crush Anderson

Anderson had no answer Saturday as the Jay County Jaguars under-12 girls soccer team blasted it 9-1.

Pazia Speed and Kayla Phillips each recorded hat tricks in the game with three goals apiece. Loryn Horn had two goals, and Leah Wellman scored one.

Abby Fullenkamp contributed one assist.

JC loses pair

The Jay County Firebirds under-14 soccer team lost to a pair of teams from New Castle this weekend.

On Saturday, Jay County fell to a 3-2 defeat.

Brad Horn and Dustin Fox each scored for the Firebirds, with Fox’s goal coming on a penalty kick. Fox set the pace with three of the team’s nine shots on goal.

Chase Ainsworth had nine saves, and Adam Horn had three.

Sunday’s defeat came by a score of 4-3, with Fox scoring a pair of goals and Horn adding one. Fox took eight of the team’s 15 shots, and Patrick Johnson had four.

Derek Bartlett finished with four saves, and Chase Ainsworth had two.

Golf outing set

The Knights of Columbus/Jay County Special Olympics golf outing will be Saturday, Sept. 27 at Portland Country Club.

Winter swim to start

The first practice for the Jay County Winter Swim Team will be Monday, Sept. 29 beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Other practices during the first week of swimming will be Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. All practices will be at the Jay County High School Pool.

The team is open to swimmers of all ages, but those interested must have some swimming experience. Schedules and other information will be distributed at the first practice.[[In-content Ad]]
