Rural home tops permit list
Building permits were issued for more than $867,000 in new construction in June in Jay County. The largest project was a new $136,000 home being built by Dion Young at 1664 W. 900 South in rural Portland. Another large construction project is a $125,000 swine confined feeding building being built by William Wickey, 3343 E. 900 North, in rural Bryant.
Other permits were issued to Robert Stockton for a $20,000 barn at 6138 W. 50 South, Portland; Dennis Homan, 5552 E. 400 North, for a $35,000 grain bin; Lucas Schmiesing, 6847 W. 450 North, for a $9,000 building addition; Gus Jackson, 4151 N. 750 West, Pennville, for a $500 barn lean-to; Daniel Burkey, 1204 N. Franklin St., Portland, a $1,000 garage lean-to; Stuart Ronald, 728 E. Arch St., $1,000 fence; Dan Ninde, 109 W. Twelfth St., Portland, for a $2,200 fence; Kyle Teeler, The Flower Nook, 111 E. Main St., Portland, for $500 in business signage; Travis Pond, Corle Insurance and Salon Karma, 207 N.
