SA coach Cogdell steps down

Local Roundup

The distance became too much for Cary Cogdell to deal with.

The South Adams boys basketball coach told his team Monday he had decided to resign. He is the second area coach to step down recently, joining Fort Recovery’s Joe Bruns.

Cogdell, who teaches at Leo, cited time constraints and other personal reasons for his departure. He will remain as a teacher at Leo, and will continue his coaching career there as an assistant under Phil Bollier.

He finished his two-year stint with the Starfires with an 11-30 record. They went 1-19 this season, with the lone victory coming against Blackford.

Fort needs a coach

Fort Recovery High School is looking for a varsity boys basketball coach. Those interested should call athletics director Barb Sautbine at (419) 375-4111 for more information.

In addition to his two decades with the Colts, Zupancic was a member of the United States Olympic Greco Roman wrestling squad at the heavyweight position.

He holds several world weightlifting records, including the world neck press record.
