SA spikers slam Raiders (09/17/03)

South Adams picked up its fourth volleyball victory of the season Tuesday, scoring a quick 21-12, 21-9, 21-10 victory over the Southern Wells Raiders.
The Starfires were led by the senior duo of Kelly Mertz and LeeAnn Snyder. Mertz racked up six kills, nine digs and four aces, and Snyder notched five kills, four digs and a pair of blocks.
Alyssa Miller had 12 assists, while Jolyn Yoder notched eight. Miller also had three aces.
South Adams won the junior varsity match 21-17, 21-15, and took the freshman match 21-4, 21-10.
The Starfires host Eastbrook Thursday at 6 p.m.
FR freshmen lose 1st
The New Bremen Cardinals handed the Fort Recovery freshman volleyball team an 11-15, 15-10, 15-4 defeat Tuesday.
It marked the first loss of the season for the Indians, who are now 8-1.
The eighth grade Indians defeated New Knoxville 15-7, 12-15, 15-5, and the seventh grade team topped New Knoxville 15-4, 15-6.
Lauren Wenning paced the freshmen in the defeat, recording six points, four kills and two blocks. Alicia Schwieterman had eight points and four kills.
Holly Stein put up 15 assists, and Abby Niekamp added 13. Niekamp also notched 20 digs, one behind team-leader Brittany Brackman.
Angie Wenning scored 15 points and added 18 sets in the win by the eighth grade team (5-3). Heather Schmackers had seven points and 13 sets.
Jill Pottkotter slammed home six kills and had two blocks, and Ashley Grube had four kills and two blocks. Lindsey Fortkamp had three digs, and Sarah Braun followed with two.
Kinsey Wenning had eight points, three kills, two digs and a block for the seventh grade team (5-3). Anne Koesters and Joanna Snyder each had two kills.
Chelsea Klenke and Betsy Tobe scored six points each. Snyder had six sets, and Klenke added four.
Rachel Tobe and Melissa Tobe had two digs apiece.
