Shop Jay County event next week
In an effort to teach Jay County residents about the benefits of shopping for goods and services at home, the local radio station and chamber of commerce are hosting the 5th annual Shop Jay County 1st radio broadcast.
John Boggs, general manager of WPGW and Jay County Chamber of Commerce president, said the event began when the chamber was looking for a vehicle to spread the word about the chamber’s theme: Shop Jay County 1st.
The event is from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and will be live from the Community Resource Center.
Jay County celebrities will read commercials for chamber member businesses throughout the day, Boggs said. There will also be some Jay County Trivia for listeners to participate in.
Dean Sanders, executive director of the chamber, said the event is a unique way for members to advertise their products or services.
“The annual Shop Jay County 1st radio broadcast offers our chamber members an inexpensive and unique way to spotlight their company or organization,” he said. “Additionally, it promotes the importance of shopping in Jay County and patronizing our wide variety of businesses and service organizations.”
Utilizing Jay County businesses and organizations instead of traveling to Muncie saves residents time and money, according to Boggs.
“We spend the whole day trying to educate our listeners about how much more important it is to spend their money locally and not go out of town to make your purchases,” Boggs said.
Sanders said the event is entertaining and listeners have the opportunity to see a live radio broadcast and win prizes.
And employees at the radio station look forward to the event every year.
“From the radio perspective, we have a lot of fun with it,” Boggs said. “We’re proud to have the association with the chamber. It works out well, it’s something very good.”[[In-content Ad]]
