Women looking for a place to find vintage and unique clothing have a new place to shop in Jay County.
Vulture Culture Vintage, 1315 N. Meridian St., grew from Michelle Seibold’s online store, www.vultureculturevinta-ge.com
About two months ago, she opened the shop.
Seibold said the majority of her business is online, but all of her merchandise was being stored in her home.
“I have a lot … I thought I need more space so this is a big, very organized office I can sell stuff out of,” she said.
The shop features vintage women’s fashion, including clothes, jewelry and accessories.
And it’s all unique, which means the shopping experience won’t be typical.
“Every single item is one-of-a-kind. There’s nothing that’s a duplicate in here,” she said.
Seibold has been selling vintage clothing online since 2005, and her business continues to grow.
It started when she was touring as a musician and recording artist. Photo shoots would feature clothing and accessories she found.
She sold two items, a navy blue 1960s dress and suede, lace-up boots, after a photo shoot and decided she could sell vintage clothing for a living.
After expanding what she carried and becoming more daring, she was able to turn what started as a sort-of-hobby into a career.
Modern clothing, she said, isn’t made the way vintage clothing was, and incorporating it into a modern wardrobe can be fun.
“You don’t have to look like the Brady Bunch,” she said. “You can really incorporate a modern, casual style with a lot of really cool, vintage articles.”
She hasn’t always been interested in vintage clothing, but has always loved unique fashion.
“I never understood blending in completely. For me, I like colors, I like art, I like flowy things and I like leather and silks,” she said. “I like possibilities, creating different looks with one thing.”
All of the items are priced for online sale, but if the merchandise is purchased in the store, the buyer will receive 20 percent off clothing and 10 percent of jewelry and accessories.
And 10 percent of all the store’s fur sales are donated to wildlife rescue.
The shop, which is open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, also sells what Seibold calls metaphysical jewelry featuring natural stones and gems.
“It’s a lot of really beautiful stuff for fantastic prices,” she said. “Any girl can wear that stuff … just come in an find something sparkly and beautiful.”
She knows not every woman is attracted to vintage clothing because it is unique, but believes vintage clothing can make a woman feel good about herself.
“It’s not dressing up, it’s just dressing to feel good. And it really, really makes a difference,” the owner said.
“I just hope that this gives people another option. I really believe woman can feel better about themselves by finding something that’s really neat.”[[In-content Ad]]
