South Adams stomps the Indians (05/22/03)

Local Roundup

Justin Caffee was nursing a 3-2 lead midway through the South Adams baseball team’s game against the Union City Indians Wednesday. Then his team gave him a little extra support.

The Starfires’ lead ballooned to 8-2 with a five-run fourth inning, and they added four more runs in the sixth on the way to a 12-2 win over Union City.

Kyle White powered the offensive surge as he went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. He also scored three times and had two RBIs and a stolen base.

Kyle Neuenschwander wasn’t far behind, adding two doubles of his own to go along with two runs, two RBIs and a stolen base. Jeremiah Kaeser had three runs, and Caffee added a pair of hits.

Caffee allowed two runs on four hits as he earned the victory. He struck out nine and walked three.

Jay falls again

The Jay County softball team still couldn’t put the brakes on their losing streak Wednesday, falling for the 13th straight time in a 3-0 loss to the Adams Central Jets.

The Patriots (5-22) played an error-free game, but allowed three runs in the first inning and couldn’t get any offense working. They had four hits in the contest.

Renae Laux, Stephanie Imel, Ashley Cook and Calah Redwine each had one hit for Jay County.

Ashleigh Myers took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits. She struck out three and walked one.

The Patriots finish the regular season with a double-header at home Saturday against Wes-Del at 10 a.m.

They will play Muncie Southside in sectional action at Pendleton Heights Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Jill Lehman had a pair of hits, and Lee Ann Snyder had one hit and a stolen base.

The Starfires will play at Bluffton today at 4:30 p.m.
