Starfires break through vs. Oak Hill (09/05/03)

They had to go the distance, but the South Adams volleyball team won the final two games Thursday for a 21-23, 21-17, 12-21, 21-18, 15-10 victory over the Oak Hill Golden Eagles.
Senior Kelly Mertz led the Starfires (3-6) both offensively and defensively with 15 kills and 21 digs. Lee Ann Snyder trailed not far behind with 13 kills and three blocks.
Alyssa Miller had 35 assists, and Renee Neuenschwander had six aces. Robyn Habegger came away with 15 digs, and Kara Ross had three blocks.
The South Adams junior varsity team suffered a 21-12, 15-21, 21-12 loss to the Golden Eagles. The freshman team lost 21-8, 21-7.
The Starfires now have a week off before visiting Bellmont Thursday at 6:15 p.m.
Fort football falls
Fort Recovery’s middle school football teams lost to Minster Thursday, the eighth grade team by a 38-8 score and the seventh grade team by a 22-6 margin.
Bobby Rammel hit Mike Trobridge on a 65-yard scoring strike for the eighth grade team’s only touchdown. Alex Gehle scored the 2-point conversion.
Toby Metzger had the lone seventh-grade score with a 12-yard touchdown run.
Golf outing set
The Knights of Columbus/Jay County Special Olympics golf outing will be Saturday, Sept. 27 at Portland Country Club.
