Starfires fall to Woodlan (05/19/03)

Six errors were enough to bury the South Adams baseball team Saturday. Each error accounted for an unearned run as the Starfires dropped a 7-1 decision to the Woodlan Warriors.
Kyle Neuenschwander was the victim of the sloppy defense, allowing seven runs — one earned — on nine hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked one in the defeat.
Kyle White had a hit, a run and a stolen base for the Starfires. Brian “Buzz” Caffee had a single and the team’s lone RBI.
South Adams will be back in action Tuesday at home against Adams Central at 4:30 p.m.
FR JV drops pair
Fort Recovery’s varsity baseball team didn’t have much luck Saturday against the Spencerville Bearcats, losing both games of a double-header 8-7 and 21-6.
The Indians, who finished the season at 9-13, took a 6-5 lead in the six inning only to have Spencerville jump back on top with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Fort Recovery managed one run in the top of the seventh, but couldn’t force extra innings.
Kim Link went 2-for-4 in the first game with one run and one RBI. Kelly Link had three hits, including a double, and Jill Wehrkamp had two hits.
Kelsie Will scored twice and had an RBI, and Lindsay Sudhoff had two hits and a run.
The Tribe was never close in the second game, allowing five runs in the second inning, six in the third and seven in the fifth.
Lindsay Sudhoff had a double, two runs and two stolen bases. Kelly Link, Lori Hart and Katie Lauber each had a pair of hits, and Wehrkamp had two RBIs.
Wehrkamp took the game-one loss, and Will was the losing pitcher in game two.
Junior League
Portland Junior League held its opening day Saturday with three Willie Mays League games and one contest in the Rookie League.
In Willie Mays action Pak-A-Sak topped Vance Heating and Cooling 11-6, Inman U-Loc defeated MainSource Bank 11-1, and Ja-Mar T.V. and Appliance defeated Inman U-Loc 13-12. Coke outlasted Ponderosa 16-15 in the only Rookie League battle.

Skyler Petty did it all for Pak-a-Sak, blasting a grand slam home run. He was also the team’s winning pitcher. Chandler Stout had two hits, including a double, for Vance.
Inman 11, MainSource 1
Matthew Landfair and Andy Haffner each had a pair of hits to lead Inman to a victory.
MainSource got two hits form Drew Houck.
Ja-Mar 13, Inman 12
Kyle Cline had a pair of hits to lead the Ja-Mar offensive effort. Brendon Reed pitched his team to the victory.
Dakota Steed notched a pair of hits for Inman.
Coke 16, Ponderosa 15
Josh Lykins and Richie Carducci each racked up three hits to power the Coke offense. Brandon Green had four hits in the loss for Ponderosa.
Three win judo tourney
Three members of Portland’s Judan Judo club won first place in their divisions at a tournament in Elkart, Ind. Saturday.
Casey Kenney, Aaron Brenner and Dyllan Derrickson each came home with first-place finishes. Lindsey Wall, Jacob Schultz and Alex Toney each placed second, and Jacob Wall and Cody Derrickson were in third place.[[In-content Ad]]
