Stars' depth leads to 2nd win (11/19/04)

Local Roundup

FORT WAYNE — The Starfires didn’t win many races, but that still didn’t stop them. The South Adams girls swim team improved to 2-0 Thursday with a 96-87 victory over Fort Wayne South Side.

The Starfires won just four races overall. But, they were third in 10 of 11 events and fourth in all of them to rack up enough points for the team victory.

Channing Yoder took care of two of the Starfires’ three individual victories. She was first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1-minute, 22.64 seconds. She won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:16.51.

Yoder also teamed with Courtney Hewitt, Ashley Gresla and Robyn Habegger to take the 200-yard freestyle relay in 2:00.35. The South Adams team of Chelsea Yoder, Shannon Musselman, Talitha Maven and Alyse Hoover was second in the event.

Haleigh Lehman picked up the other win, finishing first in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:07.46.

The Starfires, who opened last season 6-0, will try to continue this year’s streak when they host Marion Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
