Tribe rallies for MAC triumph over Versailles (09/17/04)

FORT RECOVERY — Game one loss? No problem.

For the second straight match the Fort Recovery volleyball team (6-3, 2-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) lost a close first game before rolling back for a victory, this time topping the Versailles Tigers 24-26, 25-11, 25-23, 30-28.

Jennalee Post was a serving machine, scoring twice as many points as any other Indian as she finished with 19. She also put up 48 assists and finished with 11 digs, five blocks and one kill.

Tiff Gaerke had 24 kills and 13 blocks, both team highs, and Krystal Rammel added 16 kills. Megan Wenning finished with 16 digs, seven kills and six blocks.

Kristi Westgerdes had nine points, and Rachel Brackman notched 20 digs.

Fort Recovery dominated the junior varsity match to improve to 6-1, 2-1 MAC with a 25-20, 25-14 win over Versailles.

Abby Niekamp paced the Tribe with 13 assists, seven digs and one block.

Lauren Wenning had a team-best six kills to go along with four points and one block. Alicia Schwieterman and Rachel Stahl added one block apiece.

Jodi Tobe scored nine points, Schwieterman had four kills and Brittany Brackman and Stahl each came up with six digs.

The Fort Recovery junior high volleyball teams played Union City Westside, coming away with a pair of victories. The eighth grade team topped Westside 25-8, 25-13, and the seventh grade team scored a 25-14, 22-25, 15-5 win.

Kelsey Wuebker had team highs for 15 points and five kills for the eighth graders (4-3). She also had four assists.

Chelsea Klenke put up five assists and scored eight points. Joanna Snyder finished with four kills and a pair of digs.

Kelly Sudhoff had three digs, and Kinsey Wenning, Kelly Thien and Heidi Tobe each added one block.

The seventh grade team (5-2) got 14 points and one block from Emily May. She also had one kill and one dig.

Nicole Pottkotter had seven points and five kills. Emily Link added two kills, Chelsey Leuthold had two assists and Josie Guggenbiller posted two digs.

Gridders split

VERSAILLES, Ohio — Ethan Schoenherr had a big first quarter, and the Fort Recovery seventh grade football team held on for a 20-14 victory over the Versailles Tigers Thursday. The eighth grade team lost 24-20 to Versailles.

Schoenherr scored a pair of first-quarter touchdowns, staking the Indians to a 12-0 lead. Versailles scored in the second quarter to pull within 12-8 at halftime.

Nate Wendel grabbed a touchdown pass for the Tribe in the third quarter, and Josh Wendel got the two-point conversion for a 20-8 advantage. The Tigers managed to get a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but could not get another as Fort Recovery took the victory.

The eighth grade team led 14-8 at halftime thanks to a pair of touchdowns by Wes Kahlig and a Matt Brown two-point conversion. Brown scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but the Tribe could not hold on as Versailles posted 16 second-half points for the win.[[In-content Ad]]
