The sectional alignment for Ohio’s baseball and softball sectional tournaments was released Tuesday night, with the Fort Recovery softball team earning a No. 2 seed.

The Indians (10-4) are the second-seeded team in the New Bremen sectional behind No. 1 Marion Local, who they defeated 2-1 last week.

Sectional softball play will open Tuesday, May 6 with the host Cardinals taking on St. Henry at 5 p.m. The winner of that contest will meet Fort Recovery in semifinal action Tuesday, May 13 at New Bremen at 5 p.m.

The other semifinal will pit No. 1 Marion against Minster Thursday May 8 at 5 p.m.

The championship game will be Tuesday, May 20 at 5 p.m.

The baseball sectional at Minster begins Saturday, with Fort Recovery (10-9) playing New Knoxville in the second first-round game at 2:30 p.m. New Bremen and Parkway will play in the opener at noon.

No. 2 seed Marion Local awaits the winner of the New Bremen-Parkway game for a semifinal contest Saturday, may 10 at noon. The winner of the game between the Indians and the Rangers will play top-seeded Minster Saturday, May 10 at 2:30 p.m. in the second semifinal game.

Starfires stumble

A day after pushing a very tough Bellmont team in a one-run defeat, the South Adams baseball team dropped an 11-1 decision against Adams Central Tuesday.

The Starfires managed just three hits, two of which came in the first inning when they scored their only run. Adams Central went up 2-1 after two innings before putting up eight runs in the third to put the game well out of reach.

Jeremiah Kaeser went 2-for-2 for the Starfires and scored the team’s only run. Kyle White accounted for the only other South Adams hit.

Kyle Neuenschwander took the loss, allowing six runs — five earned — on six hits in three innings. Tyler Sprunger tossed 1 2/3 innings of relief, allowing five runs, four of which were earned.

South Adams will play at Class 3A No. 5 Jay County Wednesday.

Fort flattened

Fort Recovery’s softball winnings streak came to a screeching halt with an 11-0 defeat at home against Bradford Tuesday. Prior to the loss, the Indians (10-4) had won five in a row.

Joscie Kaup notched two of the three Tribe hits, which included a triple. Krystal Rammel had the other hit for the Indians.

Fort Recovery struck out 16 times in the defeat. It will host New Bremen Thursday at 5 p.m.

Indians fall to SJ

Delphos St. Johns used a three-run fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie on the way to a 4-1 victory over the Fort Recovery junior varsity baseball team Tuesday.

Tyler Wuebker accounted for all of the Indians’ offense, getting their only hit and their only run while adding a stolen base.

Brad Fortkamp took the loss, allowing four runs — three earned — on eight hits. He struck out six and did not allow a walk.[[In-content Ad]]
