Tribe teams fall (10/15/04)

Fort volleyball

NEW BREMEN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s junior varsity volleyball team had the first chance to win the first game Thursday. When it failed, the New Bremen Cardinals took advantage and stayed on top the rest of the way as they topped the Indians 26-24, 25-15.

The teams were never separated by more than three points in the first game, and it was the Tribe which had a chance to take the tight game as it led 24-23. But, the Cardinals evened the score at 24-24, took the lead on a Fort Recovery attack error and took the game on a block by Stephanie Winner.

The Indians (13-4, 4-4 MAC) gave up the first three points of the second game and never led in the defeat.

Abby Niekamp had 15 assists, eight points and three blocks in the match — all team highs. She also had five digs and one kill.

Lauren Wenning racked up 10 kills and matched Niekamp’s three blocks. Brittany Brackman had 15 digs, and Jodi Tobe added nine digs.

Sarah Braun finished with three kills, and Rachel Stahl scored three points.
