COUNTY ACCIDENTS
A rural Pennville woman complained of back pain following a one-vehicle accident on Monday at 11:55 a.m. in Penn Township.
Julia C. Beck, 33, 5753 North 650 West, was transported by Jay Emergency Medical Service for her injuries.
She told Jay County police she was driving west on county road 500 North, about 1,500 east of county raod 750 West, when she came over the crest of a hill and there was a vehicle parked on her side of the road, partially on the road.
Beck said that she swerved to avoid striking the vehicle. She lost control of the car and went off of the south side of the road striking an electric pole owned by Jay County REMC.
Damage to Beck’s 2002 Mercury Mountaineer was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
A rural Pennville teenager complained of neck pain following an accident on Monday at 4:30 p.m. in Jackson Township.
Eric E. Coleman, 17, 5789 West 300 North, told Jay County police that he was driving west on county road 300 North, about 1,000 feet east of county road 200 West, when he fell asleep. His 1988 Honda Civic traveled off the south side of the road and then traveled to the north side of the road where it overturned and came to rest in the ditch on the driver’s side of the car.
Damage to the car, registered to Laura Coleman, same address as driver, was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Indiana State Police investigated an accident on Monday at 9:34 a.m. in Noble Township involving a semi and a car.
Teddy Huffman, 63, 2822 Mahoning Road, Canton, Ohio, told ISP that he was driving his 1999 Peterbuilt semi-truck behind a 1995 Chevrolet car driven by Robert E. Vance, 62, 126 Rayburn Drive, Portland. According to the report, Vance slowed to turn into a driveway and Huffman was passing him when Vance turned into the side of Huffman’s semi.
Damage to the vehicles was estimated between $6,000 and $12,000.
DEER ACCIDENT
A Celina, Ohio, resident was involved in a deer/vehicle accident on Ind. 67 near county road 350 East in Bearcreek Township at 2 a.m. Monday.
Matthew A. Mullins, 19, 3449 Bunker Hill Road, was eastbound on Ind. 67 when a deer entered the road from the south. A collision could not be avoided.
Estimated damage to Mullins 1988 Ford XLT Lariat was between $1,000 and $2,500.
BERNE ACCIDENT
A rural Geneva teen was involved in an accident Friday morning in the parking lot of South Adams High School.
Michael D. Lautzenheiser, 18, told Berne police he was backing out of a parking spot at 7:53 a.m. and collided with an eastbound van driven by Greg J. Keller, 46, rural Berne.
Estimated damages to the vehicles were between $750 and $1,000.
REKINDLES
Portland firefighters were called back twice to the house that burned early Monday morning on East Main Street in Portland.
At 2:40 p.m. on Monday and 7:07 a.m. today, firefighters were called to the house located at 522 E. Main St. when the fire rekindled twice.

THEFT
An unknown suspect drove off without paying for gas at Handy Andy North Monday night.
An employee of the store notified Portland Police at 10:52 p.m. that a beige Dodge Intrepid headed east on Arch Street after putting $4.38 worth of fuel in the car.
PROPERTY DAMAGE
Portland police are investigating a report of a semi and trailer that struck a utility pole and street sign at Blaine Pike and Dogwood Lane in Portland at 1:27 a.m. today.
A witness called police and told them she saw a white semi hauling a trailer turn north onto Blaine Pike from Dogwood Lane and break off the utility pole and knock over a street sign.
She said the trailer read Star Transport.
A complaint had been registered earlier in the day about a semi and trailer being parked on Dogwood Lane.
The semi reported earlier was being operated by Douglas Beitler, 112 Dogwood Lane, Portland.
Damages to the pole, owned by American Electric Power and the sign owned by the city of Portland, were estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.[[In-content Ad]]
