THREE INJURED
Two Portland men and a Columbus, Ohio, man were injured in a three-vehicle accident this morning at the intersection of Meridian and Walnut streets in Portland.
Allie Koroma, 41, 5300 Carl Road, Columbus, Ohio, Portland resident Oscar Pina, 29, 615 E. Arch St., and J.R. Acker, 48, 811 W. North St., Portland, were transported to Jay County Hospital by Jay Emergency Medical Service following the 7:45 a.m. accident.
Koroma complained of head pain, and as of this morning police were uncertain of the extent of Pina or Acker’s injuries.
According to police, Koroma was driving a 2004 semi-truck southbound on Meridian Street when he allegedly drove through a red stop light at the intersection of Walnut Street.
The semi struck an eastbound 1995 Lincoln Town Car driven by Pina. Following the collision, both vehicles continued south and struck Acker’s Buick Skylark, which was stopped in the northbound lane of Meridian Street.
The semi, owned by Werner Enterprises of Nebraska, continued south and came to rest on the east side of Meridian Street after striking an awning at Citizens Travel Center, 113 N. Meridian St., Portland.
Koroma was cited by police for failure to yield.
Portland police were assisted by JEMS, Portland Fire Department, and Jay County police.
A damage estimate for the accident had not been determined as of press time by Portland police.
ONE INJURED
A car driven by a rural Bryant teenager went off a county road and struck a tree in Jackson Township on Tuesday at 2:15 p.m.
Michael E. Moser, 17, 8645 North 125 West, complained of head pain. He told Jay County police he was driving west on county road 850 North, about 1,000 feet west of county road 250 West, when the car went off the south side of the road and into a ditch, where it struck a tree.
Moser told police he did not know how the accident occurred.
Damage to the 1994 Buick Century, registered to Mark and Terri Moser, same address as driver, was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
BURGLARY
Two bottles of prescription medications were stolen from a Portland man’s home sometime Tuesday.
James Cordell, 625 N. Alexander St., told Portland police that someone entered his unlocked home and kicked in his locked bedroom door and stole the medications from his bedroom.
The burglary occurred sometime between 2 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Approximately 70 pain killers and 54 muscle relaxers were stolen, Cordell reported.
COMMISSIONERS
In other business during their meeting Monday, Jay County Commissioners:
•Gave county highway superintendent Robert Sours permission to develop bid specifications and advertise for a new tandem axle dump truck. Bids will be opened on Nov. 17.
DEER ACCIDENT
A pick-up truck driven by a rural Portland man collided with a deer in Bearcreek Township on Monday at 6 a.m.
Bruce W. Petchke, 51, 2490 North 400 East, was driving north on U.S. 27, about 1,000 feet south of county road 500 North, when a deer came onto the road and struck the side of his 2001 Dodge Dakota.
Damage to the truck was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
AREA COURTS
A Fort Recovery man pleaded no contest recently in Mercer County Municipal Court to an amended charge of willful and wanton disregard for safety. Charges of driving while intoxicated and driving left of center were dismissed for Carl W. Hastings, 52, 2560 Wabash Road.
He was fined $100 and his driver’s license was suspended for two and a half months.[[In-content Ad]]
