Jay County boys tennis drops three in Muncie

MUNCIE — The Jay County High School boys tennis team dropped three matches Saturday at the Muncie Central Invitational.
Jay County (1-3) lost to the host Bearcats 5-0 before falling to the Bluffton Tigers 4-1 and the Mount Vernon Wildcats 5-0.
Alex Clark got the only win of the day for the Patriots, beating Bluffton’s Brian Dotterer 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. He lost in straight sets to Muncie Central’s Drake Clohessy 6-0, 6-0 and to Matt Hays of Mount Vernon 6-2, 6-1.
The Patriots’ No. 2 doubles team of Sok Vormohr and Garrett Rodgers took Nick Schmaltz and Boyd McCoy of Muncie Central to three sets before losing 6-4, 4-6, 10-3.
Zach Pryor and Alex Krieg went winless at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively, and at No. 1 doubles Adam Jutte and Jay Houck dropped all three of their matches.
The Patriots return to action Monday at home against South Adams.

Fort spikers 2-1
ST. MARYS, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s volleyball team went 2-1 Saturday at the St. Marys Invitational.
The Indians (5-2) beat the Pandora-Gilboa 25-18, 25-13 and the Spencerville Bearcats 25-10, 25-13. Fort Recovery then lost to the host St. Marys Roughriders, 25-16, 26-23.

Kendra Siefring led the Indians with 20 kills and eight blocks in the tournament. Cassidy Rammel had a team-high eight assists to go with her nine kills, seven digs and three blocks.
Rachel Pugh tallied 13 digs and Maddie Grover had seven. Tori Lennartz had seven kills and four blocks, and Devin Post added five kills.
Kirsten Jutte posted double-digit marks in assists (16)?and digs (13), and added four aces from the service line. Morgan Lennartz recorded six kills and seven blocks.

Davis sixth
MONTPELIER — Brent Davis led a contingent of local drivers competing Saturday at the Montpelier Motor Speedway.
Davis, a Dunkirk native, placed sixth in the Thunder Cars B-Main race. Portland’s Todd Weaver and Sean Torre were seventh and 14th respectively in the same race.
Steve Mills and Travis Nichols, both of Portland, placed ninth and 18th in the Thunder Cars A-Main race.
Portland’s Richard Williams and Berne’s Rob Love competed in the Super Streets race, placing seventh and ninth respectively.
Tyler Ray of Pennville and Laverne Stevens were eighth and 10th in the FWD Compacts race, Portland’s Shawn Wible placed 12th in the Mod Lites feature and Mason Stewart of Portland was 18th in UMP Modifieds.
