West Jay spikers beat South Adams

DUNKIRK — For the second straight match, Rhegan Shimp led the West Jay Middle School eighth grade volleyball team to a victory.
Shimp tallied 10 service points, nine of which were aces, in the Eagles’ 25-24, 25-19 win over the South Adams Starfires.
The Starfire seventh graders topped West Jay, 25-14, 22-25, 15-12.
For the WJMS eighth graders, Kameron Edwards had seven points and two aces, and Kendal Garringer recorded three aces and six points.
Gracie Miller notched four points, and Edwards had a pair of digs.
Allison Jobe led the seventh grade Eagles with 10 points, and Halle Hill had seven. Calli Stigleman and Hallie Fields registered four points apiece, and McKall Norris recorded three points.

Chiefs blank Patriots
MONROEVILLE — The EJMS seventh grade football traveled to Monroeville on Thursday to take on the Heritage Patriots, and walked away with a 26-0 shutout victory.
MaCuly Lemaster scored two touchdowns for the Chiefs (1-0). He found paydirt on a 60-yard scamper and another on a 25-yard reception from Gabe Link.
Jackson Lyons and Logan Duran added scores of 30 and 45 yards respectively.
Sheldon Upp recorded seven tackles to lead the EJMS defense, and Drake Mason and Tyler Moore both recovered fumbles.


EJ rally falls short
MONROEVILLE — East Jay’s eighth grade football team erased a 13-point deficit at halftime on Thursday, but Heritage scored late to steal a 32-26 victory from the Chiefs.
Michael Schlechty scored two touchdowns in the second half — a 4-yard score in the third and another in the fourth from the same distance — giving East Jay a 26-25 lead, only to see it vanish a short time later.
Ryan Schlechty, Michael’s twin brother, took the opening kickoff 70 yards for a score. Daniel Ostrowski scored the other touchdown for the Chiefs on a 12-yard run in the second quarter.

FRMS 7th wins
VERSAILLES — The Fort Recovery Middle School seventh grade football team picked up a 28-8 win over the Versailles Tigers on Thursday.
The Tribe eighth graders finished in a tie, 24-24.
Garret Faller led the seventh grade Indians with two touchdowns. Evan Westgerdes and Cade Stone each added scores. Eli Keller and Jacob Acheson each had an interception.
Robbie LeFevre scored two touchdowns for the FRMS eighth graders, with Peyton Jutte and Clayton Pearson also finding paydirt.
Kody Shinaberry recovered a fumble and Pearson added an interception.
