Patriot girls soccer loses second straight

The host Jay County High School girls soccer team lost its second straight game Tuesday with a 7-1 defeat to Allen County Athletic Conference foe Leo Lions.
Gabbie Mann scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season for Jay County, but the Lions took a 5-1 lead into halftime.
Leo tacked on two more goals early in the second half, putting Jay County (2-3, 2-1 ACAC) below .500 for the first time since dropping its season opener Aug. 19 at Richmond.
The Patriots will return to the pitch at 5 p.m. Thursday against Oak Hill.

JC streak hits nine
BLUFFTON — The Jay County volleyball team pushed its winning streak to nine with an Allen County Athletic Conference win over the Bluffton Tigers on Tuesday.
Jay County (10-1, 1-0 ACAC) beat Bluffton 25-18, 25-16, 25-15.
Kylie Osborne tallied a team-high 17 kills to go with her five digs. Abby Barcus had seven kills, three digs and two aces, and Ava Kunkler notched six kills. Bre McIntire recorded six aces, Abby Wendel added eight digs and Lizzy Schoenlein tallied 29 assists.
The junior varsity Patriots also won, 25-18, 25-24, improving to 6-2 on the season.
Britlyn Dues had a team-high five kills and five aces, while adding three digs and seven service points. Alli Campbell led Jay County with nine assists, and she matched Alayna Aparicio’s effort by notching seven digs.

Jay girls second
MUNCIE — Three Patriots posted their best scores of the season as the JCHS girls golf team finished second Tuesday at Muncie Elks Golf Club.
Malarie Houck fired a 44 — a three-stroke improvement from her previous career best set Aug. 18 — leading the Patriots to a season-low 184.
The Yorktown Tigers won the three-team match with a 155, and the host Wes-Del Warriors were third with 206.
Sophomore Sydney Mathias shot a 46, her career best, and Brooke Sanders and Maddison Baughn followed with matching scores of 47.
Rachel Antrim also competed for the Patriots, turning in a scorecard of 57.

Fort freshman win
CELINA, Ohio — Kiah Wendel led the Fort Recovery freshman volleyball team to a 25-19, 17,25, 25-19 victory over the Celina Bulldogs on Monday.
Wendel totaled seven aces from the service line, while adding five kills and five assists.
Sydney Dues had nine kills and eight assists, and Bridget Pottkotter tallied five kills for the Tribe.
Fort Recovery is now 2-0 on the season.
