Willis shoots 1-under

FORT WAYNE — Sydney Willis of South Adams tied her season best score of 36, shooting 1-under par Tuesday at Brookwood Golf Club.
The South Adams sophomore led the Starfire girls golf team to a season-low 172 as it beat the host Bishop Luers Knights (211).
Following Willis were Alleigh Wangler and Jaci Gorrell, who both turned in season-best scores of 43. Kelli Lehman shot a 50 to round out the team score for South Adams (9-2).
Caitlyn Hofstetter and Kaiti Gorrell also competed for the Starfires, posting scores of 54 and 61 respectively.

Star boys, girls win
BERNE — The South Adams boys and girls cross country teams picked up a pair of wins over the Southern Wells Raiders and Heritage Patriots in an Allen County Athletic Conference double dual meet Tuesday.
The Starfire girls beat the Raiders 20-38 and the Patriots 15-50, while the SAHS boys prevailed over Southern Wells 15-49 and Heritage 15-50.
Olivia Von Gunten was the overall winner on the girls side, crossing the finish line in 20 minutes, 26 seconds. She was followed by teammates Aleesha Goodwin in second, Kara Seffernick in fourth and Lauren Klaehn was sixth.
The South Adams boys occupied the top five spots, with David Steffen winning with a time of 18:12. Briar Goodwin, Sawyer Miller, Wyatt Miller and Cole Litwiller finished behind Steffen.

Rally falls short
BERNE — Tori Reiley scored a goal with less than two minutes left to cut the New Haven lead to one, but the South Adams girls soccer team wasn’t able to net the equalizer in a 3-2 loss Tuesday to the visiting Bulldogs.
Trailing 3-1 in the final minutes of the contest, Reiley, a junior, found twine for her first goal of the season on an assist by Alexis Dellinger.
New Haven got on the board first midway through the opening half, and added another with less than five minutes on the clock to take a 2-0 lead.
Starfire freshman Mayia Curtis scored her first career goal in the 39th minute, cutting the deficit to 2-1, before the Bulldogs added an insurance goal.

Jets top Stars
BERNE — The South Adams boys tennis team got wins from its top two singles players, but dropped an ACAC match to the Adams County rival Adams Central Flying Jets, 3-2.
At No. 1 singles, David Muselman needed three sets to beat Eric Ripley, 6-2, 6-7 (7-5), 7-5. One day after cruising to a victory at Jay County, Dexter Miller beat James Weil 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Adams Central’s Andy Oliver beat Cole Myers at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-1.
Marcus Teeter and Chad Grabau of South Adams (7-3, 1-2 ACAC) lost to Jared Lehman and Ben Kahlert 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 1 doubles, and the No. 2 doubles team of Kam DeLong and Brett Litwiller fell to Zach Green and Jared Ripley 6-2, 6-4.

SAMS wins
BERNE — Eliza Harruff and Kamden Yoder won their respective races as the South Adams Middle School girls and boys cross country teams beat Heritage and Southern Wells on Tuesday.
Megan Miller, Isabel Von Gunten and Kallee Patch followed Harruff in second through fourth places, as the Starfires beat Southern Wells 16-45 and Heritage 15-50.
Luke Yoder and Trey Lehman also placed in the top five for the Starfire boys, with Yoder crossing the finish line in second and Lehman in fifth. The SAMS boys topped Southern Wells 23-33 and Heritage 16-46.
