Tribe spikers sweep Chiefs

Fort Recovery Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams both picked up wins over East Jay on Thursday in Portland.
The Tribe eighth graders won 25-19, 25-16, and the seventh grade Indians were victorious by a score of 25-15, 25-6.
Cassidy Martin had a dozen service points to lead the Tribe eighth graders, adding three aces in the process. Faith Kahlig tallied eight points to go with her five assists, and Madison Rammel chipped a half dozen points and assists each to accompany her team-high three kills.
For the Chiefs, Hanna Phillips had four points and two aces, and Maggie Pryor chipped in with four points, two aces and a team-high eight digs.
Sarah Walter and Olivia Kunkler both recorded three points, two digs and two kills.
Claudia Jones led the FRMS seventh graders with 11 points, five of which came by way of aces. Meghan Jutte added seven points and five aces.
Britney Mullins tallied seven points and four aces for East Jay, with Emma James contributing three points and three kills. Macey Weitzel had three digs.

EJ falls at Selma
SELMA — The East Jay sixth grade volleyball teams traveled to Selma on Thursday to take on the Raiders, and returned to Jay County with a pair of losses.
The A team lost 25-19, 25-9, and the B team was defeated 25-13, 25-10.
Alana Kunkler led the A team with six points, and Natalie Miles had three. Eliza Bader recorded the only kill for the Chiefs.
For East Jay’s B team, Olivia Rowles tallied two points, and Abby Huey and Melissa Nava each chipped in with one point.

Ault dominates in win
DUNKIRK — Molly Ault turned in a dominating performance at the service line in West Jay eighth grade volleyball team’s 25-7, 25-9 win Thursday over Union City.
The seventh grade Eagles also won, 25-15, 25-12.

Ault served the Eagles to 21 points, including 11 aces. She also added one kill. Rhegan Shimp tallied eight points on six aces, and Randi Ferguson had four points, all of which were aces. Kameron Edwards notched two kills.
For the seventh grade Eagles, Allison Jobe recorded 14 points on nine aces, and Calli Stigleman had seven points and two aces.
McKall Norris tallied six points with four aces, and Hallie Fields had three aces.

EJ football wins
Logan Duran and Michael Schlechty led the East Jay seventh and eighth grade football teams to victories Thursday over Muncie Southside, formerly Wilson Middle School.
The eighth graders won 25-12, and the seventh grade team beat Southside 18-8.
Schlechty, an eighth grader, had touchdown runs of 15 and 5 yards in the first and fourth quarters respectively. Trey Castillo and Daniel Ostrowski also scored touchdowns for the Chiefs. Mitchell Langenkamp had an interception, and Thomas Hemmelgarn recovered a fumble he forced.
Duran had TD runs of 60 and 30 yards for the seventh grade Chiefs. MaCuly LeMaster had a 20-yard touchdown reception from Gabe Link, who was 3-of-4 passing and added 100 yard rushing.

Fort falls to Anna
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s middle school football teams were beat by the Anna Rockets on Thursday.
The Tribe eighth graders lost 30-26, and the seventh graders were defeated 24-6.
Clayton Pearson and Payton Jutte threw touchdown passes to each other for the eighth grade Indians. Pearson found Jutte on a 58-yard score, and Pearson scored from 36-yards out on Jutte’s pass.
Robby LeFevre added two touchdown receptions, and Mason Will had an interception.
For the FRMS seventh graders, Jacob Acheson had 65 yards and a touchdown on three receptions, and Mitchell Pugh caught two passes for 47 yards.
Riley Post had an interception for Fort Recovery.
