NOBLESVILLE — The Jay County High School volleyball team cruised to the championship match Saturday at the Noblesville Invitational.
Standing in its way was one of the top-ranked teams in the state.
Jay County fell to the Class 1A No. 1 Wes-Del Warriors 25-19, 25-15 to finish in second place in the eight-team tournament at Noblesville.
The loss ended Jay County’s streak of 13 straight victories.
The Patriots (14-2) beat the host Millers 25-14, 25-20, Union County Patriots 23-25, 25-14, 15-11 and Southmont Mounties 25-12, 25-13 en route to its third straight appearance in a tournament championship match.
Kylie Osborne led Jay County, which earlier won invitationals at home and at Heritage, with 31 kills for the tournament. She also had 19 digs.
Abby Barcus had 23 kills and 17 digs. Abby Wendel tallied a team-high 26 digs to go with her 18 kills, and Ava Kunkler had 14 kills and 26 digs.
Lizzy Schoenlein recorded 114 digs and 61 assists.

Fort golfers 7th
CELINA, Ohio — Chase Bruns turned in a round of 87 Saturday, leading the Fort Recovery boys golf team to a seventh-place finish in the Jordan Moeller Invitational at Mercer County Elks.
The Indians had a team score of 374 in the 17-team tournament.
Nick Litmer shot a 90, one stroke off his season-best 89, as the Indians’ No. 2 golfer. Jackson Hobbs had a 96, and Derek Backs shot a 101.
Cole Wendel also competed for the Tribe, turning in a score of 103.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity squad beat the St. Henry Redskins 200-215 on Friday at Elks.
Micaiah Cox and Austin Faller led the Indians with a 47 and 48 respectively. Calvin Rammel posted a 50, and Colt Grieshop had a 55.
Also competing were Brandon Homan (58) and Austin Pohl (60).

SA boys fourth, girls fifth
MARION — Bailey McIntire crossed the finish line in second Saturday, helping the South Adams boys cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the Wildcat Classic on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan.
The Starfire girls placed fifth.
Sawyer Miller followed McIntire by placing 13th. Wyatt Miller and David Steffen finished back-to-back in 38th and 39th, and Briar Goodwin was 52nd to complete the Starfires’ team score of 138.
Hamilton Southeastern won the 18-team race with a score of 29.
Olivia Von Gunten led the way for the South Adams girls, placing ninth for her fourth straight top-10 finish.
Aleesha Goodwin was 24th, Kara Seffernick placed 31 and Hadi and Katelin Hawbaker were 50th and 62nd respectively. The Starfires scored 164 points, with Hamilton Southeastern scoring 34 points to win the girls’ race also.

Star tennis wins two
FORT WAYNE — The South Adams boys tennis team won a pair of matches Saturday at the Wayne/South Side Invitational at Wayne.
The Starfires (9-3) beat the host Generals 5-0, then followed with a 5-0 victory over the Churubusco Eagles.
At No. 1 singles, David Muselman beat Thomas Wartenberg of Wayne 6-0, 6-0, then topped Churubusco’s Luke Lillmaris 6-4, 2-6 (10-3). Dexter Miller won 6-1, 6-0 and 7-5, 6-2 respectively at No. 2 singles against Isaac Romary of the Generals and Derek Bowyer of the Eagles.
At No. 3 singles, Brett Litwiller defeated Wayne’s Jacob Moreno 6-4, 6-0 and then Cole Grim of Churubusco 6-3, 6-0.
Cole Myers teamed up with Marcus Teeter at No. 1 doubles to beat Wayne’s Eli Romary and Andrew Armstrong 6-1, 6-0, then joined Jared Grabau to defeat Landon Lillman and Justin Schoeph of Churubusco 6-1, 6-4.
At No. 2 doubles, Kam DeLong and Chad Grabau didn’t lose a game against Wayne’s Tristan Tucker and Cameron Fyfe. DeLong then teamed with Cody Baker against Churubusco, beating the Eagles’ tandem of Seth Brown and Alex Eseober 6-3, 6-2.

Fort JV blanks Anna
FORT RECOVERY — Jason Roessner ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more Saturday in the FRHS junior varsity football team’s 34-0 drilling of the visiting Anna Rockets.
Roessner scored on a 1- and 56-yard runs, threw a 1-yard TD pass to Ross Homan and heaved a 43-yard touchdown to Brandon Schoen.
Schoen also added a 57-yard punt return.
Will Homan and Cade Wendel both had 2-point conversions for the Indians.

FRMS drops a pair
COLDWATER, Ohio — The Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade volleyball team lost a pair of matches Saturday at the Coldwater Invitational.
The Indians fell to the St. Henry Redskins 10-25, 25-23, 25-17 before losing to the host Cavaliers 17-25, 25-21, 25-23.
Hannah Knapke led the Indians with 20 kills and 23 digs on the day, and adding 12 points from the service line. Natalie Homan served up 15 points, and Faith Kahlig had a team-high 23 assists.
Madison Rammel tallied 12 kills, 15 digs and 19 assists, and Becca Wood had 10 points from the service line and 14 digs.
