Baughn leads Patriot golfers

WARREN — Maddison Baughn led the Jay County High School girls golf team to a first-place finish Tuesday at Dogwood Glen Golf Club.
Baughn turned in a round of 48 — her third-lowest score of the season for nine holes — helping the Patriots to a team score of 202.
The Southern Wells Raiders were second with 221, and the Blackford Bruins had a 246 for third.
Sydney Mathias and Brooke Sanders both shot a 50 for Jay County, and Rachel Antrim had a 54 to complete the team score.
Malarie Houck turned in a 62 for the Patriots’ No. 5 score.
Jay County finished the regular season with a record of 10-5 in dual matches, and will compete in the sectional tournament Saturday at Crestview Golf Club in Muncie.
The Patriots tee off at 10:05 a.m.

Jets blank Patriots
MONROE — Jay County’s boys tennis team was shut out for the third straight match.
The host Adams Central Flying Jets beat the Patriots on Tuesday. 5-0.
Jay County’s Alex Krieg lost to James Weil at No. 2 singles in the closest match of the contest, 6-3, 6-2.
Adams Central’s Eric Ripley beat JCHS senior Zach Pryor 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and at No. 3 singles the Jets’ Andy Oliver beat Alex Clark 6-0, 6-0.
Adam Jutte and Jay Houck fell to Jared Lehman and Ben Kahlert 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and the JCHS No. 2 doubles team of Sok Vormohr and Garrett Rodgers lost to Zach Green and Jared Ripley 6-2, 6-0.

Cards top Tribe
NEW BREMEN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s volleyball team fell to 1-2 in the Midwest Athletic Conference with a loss Tuesday to the New Bremen Cardinals.
After dropping the first game 25-21, the Cardinals won the next three, 25-22, 25-16, 25-16, handing the Indians their third straight conference loss.
Kendra Siefring led the Fort Recovery offense with 14 kills. She also had 13 digs and four blocks.
Kirsten Jutte had 21 assists and 14 digs,
Tori Lennartz tallied five kills, four blocks and 10 digs, and Morgan Lennartz had a team-high five blocks.
Madi Grover and Cassidy Rammel had nine digs and nine assists respectively.
Carley Stone led the Indians’ junior varsity team to a win over the Cardinals, 25-22, 25-9. She had a team-high eight kills, and added four digs and two aces.
Grace Thien chipped in with seven kills, and Alexis Bubp tallied nine digs.

Patriots edge Indians

ARCANUM, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys golf team lost to the Tri-Village Patriots on Tuesday at Beechwood Golf Course on a tiebreaker.
The Patriots and Indians tied with 187, but Nick Litmer’s score of 50 was one-shot higher than Tri-Village’s No. 5 golfer, giving the Patriots a one-stroke victory.
Jackson Hobbs had a 44 as the Indians’ top golfer.
Derek Backs and Chase Bruns followed with a 46 and 48 respectively, and Cole Wendel had a 49.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity squad beat the Patriots, 242-253.
Calvin Rammel led the Indians with a 55. Micaiah Cox turned in a score of 58, and Brandon Homan shot a 60. Austin Pohl had a 69.

Tribe girls fall
ARCANUM, Ohio — Elli Keller led the Fort Recovery girls golf team with a 51 Tuesday at Beechwood Golf Course, but the Tribe fell short in a 215-221 loss to the Arcanum Trojans.
Trisha Thien followed Keller with a 53, and Tori Vaughn shot a 55.
Emily Bruns rounded out the team score with a 62. Cori Stone (62) and Sophie Timmerman (70) also competed for Fort Recovery.

Star runners win
BERNE — The host South Adams boys and girls cross country teams both picked up a pair of wins Tuesday in a double dual with the Bluffton Tigers and Woodlan Warriors.
The Starfire boys beat Bluffton 16-49 and topped Woodlan 15-49.
The South Adams girls earned a 19-37 victory over Bluffton, and the Woodlan girls did not have enough for a team score.
Olivia Von Gunten and Bailey McIntire were the overall winners for the girls’ and boys’ race respectively.
Von Gunten crossed the finish line in 21 minutes, 12 seconds, and McIntire finished in 16:47.
Kara Seffernick (second), Aleesha Goodwin (third), Lauren Klaehn (fourth) and Hadi Hawbaker (sixth) followed Von Gunten.
Behind McIntire for the boys were Sawyer Miller (second), Wyatt Miller (fourth), David Steffen (fifth) and Briar Goodwin (sixth)

Willis medals
GENEVA — Sydney Willis earned yet another match medalist honor Tuesday, leading the South Adams girls golf team to a 183-241 victory over the New Haven Bulldogs at Golf Club of the Limberlost.
Alleigh Wingler was the No. 2 golfer for South Adams, scoring a 44. Jaci Gorrell was two strokes behind with a 46, and Amy Schwartz rounded out the Starfires’ team score with a 53.
Kelli Lehman and Catlyn Hofstetter also competed for South Adams, shooting identical rounds of 62.
