Chief spikers sweep Eagles

In a battle of Jay County middle school volleyball teams, the East Jay Chiefs handled their cross-county rivals from Dunkirk.
East Jay’s eighth grade volleyball team beat the West Jay Eagles, 25-12, 25-12. The seventh grade Chiefs won 24-25, 25-23, 15-11, and the EJMS sixth grade team was victorious 25-14, 25-11.
Hannah Phillips, Maggie Pyror and Kailee Denney led the EJMS eighth graders with nine points each, with Denney tallying three aces.
Gwen Omstead and Olivia Kunkler each had four kills, and Pryor chipped in with eight digs. Molly Ault had a team-high six points for the Eagles.
For the EJMS seventh graders, Britney Mullins had a game-high 13 points, including six aces, with Logan Poore and Macey Weitzel tallying six points each. Emma James and Elyse Bost both had four kills.
Allison Jobe led WJMS with 11 points, and Calli Stigleman had six. Hallie Fields recorded six kills.
Alana Kunkler paved the way for the sixth grade Chiefs with nine points and two aces, and Natalie Miles notched seven points and six aces.
Chloe Campbell had three points and two aces for West Jay.

Chiefs edge Raiders
PONETO — It was the Schlechty show at Southern Wells on Tuesday.
Ryan Schlechty scored three rushing touchdowns and his twin brother Michael added a pair of two-point conversions as the East Jay Middle School eighth grade football team held off the Southern Wells Raiders, 26-24.
Ryan Schlechty scored on runs of 10, 5 and 2 yards, and added a 2-point conversion in the second quarter as the Chiefs built a 26-16 lead after three quarters.
Southern Wells got within two in the final period and threatened to score again, but Christian King recorded a sack to seal the win.

Shaffer leads Stars
MONROEVILLE — Collin Shaffer accounted for all five Starfire touchdowns Tuesday, leading the South Adams Middle School seventh grade football team to a 31-6 victory over the Heritage Patriots.
Shaffer had touchdown runs of 53, 39 and 19 yards, threw a 42-yard TD pass to Nic Stuber in the first quarter, then caught a 30-yard touchdown from Stuber in the third quarter.
The SAMS eighth graders lost to the Patriots, 33-13.
DeAundre James scored on a 23-yard run in the first quarter, and Drake Deitsch found the end zone on a 75-yard kickoff return.
