Lions rough up Jay

LEO — The Jay County High School volleyball team lost its first conference match of the season Thursday.
The Patriots (15-3, 3-1 Allen County Athletic Conference) battled in game one, but fell apart in the final two, losing 25-22, 25-14, 25-13.
Abby Barcus had five kills to lead the Patriots, who got four kills and seven digs from Abby Wendel. Ava Kunkler and Bre McIntire both chipped in with three kills and three digs each, and Emily Westgerdes added three kills.
Lizzy Schoenlein had a team-high 10 digs and 16 assists to go with her two kills. Kylie Osborne also notched a pair of kills and six digs.
The Patriots’ junior varsity squad also lost to the Lions, 25-23, 25-17.
Britlyn Dues recorded a team-high five kills, with Chloe Trissel, Kaelyn Weaver and Emilie Walter all tallying four kills. Abby Muhlenkamp had nine digs, and Katie Lyons notched eight digs and seven assists.

Jay boys blanked
DECATUR — Jay County’s boys soccer team managed only six shots on goal in an 8-0 loss to the Bellmont Braves on Thursday.
It was the second straight shutout for Jay County (3-6-1).
The Patriots went into intermission trailing 4-0, and Bellmont notched four more goals in the final 40 minutes for the lopsided victory.
Nathan Hamilton had six saves in goal for Jay County, which has been outscored 17-0 in its last two games, including a 9-0 loss to Leo on Tuesday.

Fort rally falls short
ROCKFORD, Ohio — The Fort Recovery volleyball team rallied from two games down against the Parkway Panthers on Thursday.
But its comeback fell short in the fifth game, as the Indians lost to the Panthers 25-13, 25-14, 22-25, 14-25, 15-11.
Kendra Siefring and Tori Lennartz paved the way for the Fort Recovery offense, tallying 17 and 16 kills respectively. Siefring also notched 16 digs and five blocks.

Cassidy Rammel led the Indians with 24 assists, and Madi Grover had a team-high 18 digs.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also lost to the Panthers, 25-20, 25-23.
Carley Stone totaled six kills, and Abby Wenning notched four kills. Jill Roessner had nine assists.

SA beats Norwell
BLUFFTON — Playing in its final match before Saturday’s sectional tournament, the South Adams girls golf team beat the host Norwell Knights on Thursday, 185-195, at Timber Ridge Golf Club.
Junior standout Sydney Willis made par on her first five holes before double bogeying the par-4 15th and bogeying the par-4 16th. She shot even on the final two holes on the sectional course for a 3-over-par 39, the No. 1 score for South Adams.
Jaci Gorrell followed Willis with a 44, Alleigh Wingler shot a 49 and Kelli Lehman posted a 53. Amy Schwartz also competed for the Starfires, turning in a round of 58.
Amber Nelson led the Knights with a 42.

Stars top Archers
BERNE — Alexis Dellinger scored three goals Thursday and Maddie Morgan added a pair as the South Adams girls soccer team beat the Fort Wayne South Side Archers, 5-3.
South Side scored one minute into the game, but Dellinger responded by recording her three goals in the next 11:32.
Morgan gave the Starfires (2-7) a three-goal cushion with her first mark of the game with less than four minutes to go in the half.
South Side got within two, 4-2, almost 16 minutes into the second, but Morgan answered 90 seconds later with her second goal. The Archers made it a two-goal game again with 17 minutes to play, and the Starfires held on to the lead for their second win of the season.
Jade Jauregui had six saves in goal for South Adams.
