Alex Abbott scored the lone goal for the Jay County boys soccer team in a 5-1 loss Saturday to Centerville.
With his team trailing 3-0 in the first half, Abbott notched his team-leading 10th goal of the season for the Patriots (3-7-1).
The Bulldogs put the game away in the second half, scoring two more goals and holding the Patriots scoreless.
Nathan Hamilton had five saves in goal for Jay County, and Trevor Moeller notched three.
Jay County tallied 13 shots on goal in the contest.

JC tops Bulldogs
CENTERVILLE — Gabbie Mann notched her fourth hat trick of the season Saturday as the Jay County girls soccer team beat the Centerville Bulldogs, 5-1.
Mann, a junior, helped the Patriots (4-5) to a 4-0 lead after the opening half. Centerville finally found the back of the net in the final 40 minutes, but was unable to cut into the lead any further.
Sophomore Stormi Canterbury had the first multi-goal game of her career, scoring twice to match her season total. Mann upped her season total to a team-high 17 goals.
Catherine Dunn tallied two assists, her first two of the season, and Carmen Lopez also added a helper.
Lilly Rogers had five saves in goal for Jay County.

Chiefs third at invite
SELMA — East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade volleyball team placed third Saturday at the Selma Invitational.
The Chiefs went 3-1 on the day, picking up wins over Southwood, Connersville and Northside. It’s only loss in the eight-team tournament was to Selma.
Kailee Denney served East Jay to 37 points in the tournament and tallied 22 assists.
Maggie Pryor recorded 29 points from the service line, 16 of which were aces. She also had a team-high 25 digs.
Sarah Walter notched 16 points, 13 kills and seven digs for East Jay, which also got 10 kills from Olivia Kunkler. Gwen Omstead and Hanna Dillon had nine and eight kills respectively, and Dillon added 14 points.

EJ girls 2nd
SELMA — Kendra Muhlenkamp placed second overall to lead the East Jay girls cross country team to a second-place finish Saturday at the Selma Invitational.
The East Jay boys placed third.
Muhlenkamp finished in 12 minutes, 9 seconds, seven seconds behind Elizabeth Reece of Yorktown.
Miranda Alig was the No. 2 runner for East Jay, placing 18th. Kristy Alig (22nd), Cheyenne Liette (25th), and Klarissa Hemmelgarn (30th) rounded out the Chiefs’ team score of 97.
For the EJMS boys, Skyler Myers and Tayler Smeltzer had matching times of 11:28 to place seventh and eighth respectively.
Yuri Miyatsu (36th), Josh Ortiz (39th) and Damian Resler (41st) also ran for East Jay.
