BERNE — The Chiefs are champions.
East Jay Middle School’s wrestling team rolled to the Allen County Athletic Conference title Saturday, scoring 135 points to beat runner-up Southern Wells by more than 30 in the meet at South Adams. The host Starfires were fourth with 56.5, and West Jay placed seventh in the eight-team field with six.
The Chiefs walked away with six individual titles, including three in the four heaviest weight classes. Derrick earned the crown at 160 pounds, Cooper Jacks was first at 195 and Levi Peterson took the championship at 220.
EJMS also took back-to-back titles at 80 and 85 with winning efforts from Blayne Daniels and Dawson Hundley. Garrett Mann earned the 140-pound championship.
Adding second-place finishes for the Chiefs were Dyllan Garringer (75), Jackson Lyons (125), Braden McIntire (132) and Hunter Mills (150). Zakk Atkins (110) and Brian Newman (117) placed third, and Zack Twigg (95) and Dakota Lairson (175) were fourth.
Individual results from West Jay were not available at press time.
