The home girls team left no question that it is the best.
Jay County’s middle school girls swim team won nine events Saturday, including all three relays, to take the top spot as they hosted the Allen County Athletic Conference Championships.
It scored 461 points to defeat runner-up Bluffton by 153. South Adams was third in the four-team field with 277.
Jay County was third in the boys competition with 278 points to finish behind Bluffton (413) and South Adams (294).
Erica Hathaway, Ashlyn Dow and Eliza Bader all won two individual events for Jay County while also contributing to a pair of relay wins.
Hathaway and teammate Rieley Brewster went one-two in both of their individual events, with Hathaway winning the 200 freestyle by 3.34 seconds in 2 minutes, 20.41 seconds, and the 400 freestyle by about the same margin in 5:00.08.
Dow took the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.22 with teammate Emma James in second place and was also first in the 50 freestyle in 26.45. Bader posted a time of 28.48 as she went one-two with Lillian Clemmons in the 50 butterfly and also claimed the title in the 100 individual medley in 1:06.47.
Clemmons joined Hathaway, Dow and Bader to take the 300 freestyle relay, 3:01.8, and Hathaway, Bader, Clemmons and Brewster were first in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:55.21. Elayna Paro, Dow, Brewster and James started the relay sweep by taking the 200 medley relay in 2:10.56.
The lone victory for the Jay County boys was in the 200 freestyle relay as Konner Sommers, Tait Longsworth, Samuel Crump and Chase McFarland finished in 2:06.94. Juan Pablo Wiggins was the runner-up in the 200 freestyle by five hundredths of a second in 2:22.36.
The South Adams boys got individual wins from Trey Lehman with a time of 27.23 in the 50 freestyle and Tyler Yoder with 116.85 points in diving. Isabel Von Gunten was first for the SAMS girls in the 100 freestyle by nearly four seconds in 1:03.92.
