ANDERSON — The Patriot boys had a winner. The girls broke a record.
Andrew Trewyn and the girls 4x400 relay team provided the highlights Saturday as the Jay County High School track teams hosted the Patriot Invitational at Anderson University.
Trewyn was the lone Patriot victor at the indoor meet, taking the boys high jump at 6 feet, 5 inches. He bested Connersville’s Mason Sullenberger by an inch as only four athletes cleared the 6-foot mark.
Emma Laux, Taylor Homan, Britlyn Dues and Erika Kunkler posted the top finish for the girls team as they took third in the 4x400-meter relay. Their time of 4 minutes, 22 seconds broke the previous JCHS indoor record.
Dues also tied the indoor school record in the 60 hurdles in 10.41 seconds.
Kendra Muhlenkamp, Kelsey Burden, Kellie Fortkamp and Megan Wellman were fifth in the distance medley relay in 13:55, and Emily Muhlenkamp, Gabby Kunkler, Erika Kunkler and Megan Wellman placed sixth in the 4x800 relay in 11:16.
Kellie Fortkamp had the top individual finish for the girls as she took sixth in the 3,200 run in 12:59. Audrey Shreve and Kendal Garringer tied for seventh in the high jump at 4 feet, 6 inches, and Laux was 10th in the 60 dash in 8.45.
Jay County’s boys posted a runner-up finish in the 4x200 relay in 1:51.74. Trewyn was 16th in the shot put with a distance of 39 feet, 4.5 inches, and Travis Barton finished 21st in the 3,200 run in 11:35.21.
