Swimmers cruise to win over Bruins
BLACKFORD — Jay County’s middle school boys and girls swim teams both picked up wins over the Blackford Bruins on Monday.
The girls squad, which was crowned Allen County Athletic Conference champions on Saturday, won 134-33. The boys nabbed a 102-72 victory.
Rieley Brewster earned wins in a pair of individual events and helped two relay teams finish first. She won both the 50-yard butterfly in 31.81 seconds and 400 freestyle (4 minutes, 48.32 seconds) after joining Lillian Clemmons, Ashlyn Dow and Eliza Bader to win the 200 medley relay in 2:09.43). Kearsten Myers, Elayna Paro, Brewster and Bader also won the 300 freestyle relay with a time of 3:15.73.
Dow was the only other double winner, touching the wall first in the 200 freestyle (2:33.53) and 50 freestyle (27.47).
Also earning individual victories were Jaden Schlosser (diving – 87.5 points), Myers (100 freestyle – 1:15.36), Bader (100 backstroke – 1:08.38) and Paro (100 breaststroke – 1:25).
The JC girls also won the 200 medley relay behind Sarah Tormaschy, Brooklyn Mattingly, Cydney Smith and Kelly Strausburg. They finished with a time of 2:38.96.
Juan Pablo Wiggins (200 freestyle – 2:28.54), Matthew Minnich (100 freestyle – 1:12) and Tait Longsworth (100 backstroke –1:23.91) were the lone individual boys winners.
Konner Sommers, Damian Hicks, Longsworth and Wiggins combined for a win in the 200 freestyle relay in 2:13.78.
