Arts Place’s performance series continues with its second show of the season Saturday.
The Gonzalo Bergara Quartet will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Hall-Moser Theatre as part of the facility’s “Live! at Arts Place” series.
The quartet is an all-acoustic group that plays a modern variant of gypsy jazz. It draws influence from Django Reinhardt and the Hot Club of France, traditional jazz and the music of Gonzalo Bergara’s home of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
“I’d rather the audience feel something, rather than just being extremely impressed with how fast the guitar solos are — if someone hears my music and feels like laughing, or crying, or even thinking about it — that’s the deeper experience,” Bergara said in a press release.
The group — Gonzalo Bergara (lead guitar), Jeffrey Radaich (rhythm guitar), Leah Zeger (violin) and Brian Netzley (upright bass) — will follow its Portland performance with shows in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Sunday and Lexington, Kentucky, on Monday. Bergara’s first CD was an editor’s pick in “Guitar Player Magazine.”
Advance tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for students. They are available at http://www.artsland.org or (260) 726-4809.
Tickets at the door will be $20 for adults and $10 for students.
The next concert in the series will feature Carrie Newcomer on Dec. 3.
