Atkinson family offers its thanks
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
We would like to thank The Commercial Review for running the articles on our son Kurtis Atkinson regarding him needing a kidney transplant.
We would especially like to thank Rose Skelly and Julie Valentine for writing these wonderful and informative articles.
The first article was written in regard to our search for a living donor. After the article was published, numerous people contacted St. Vincent Hospital for more information and testing. We are extremely grateful for each and every one of them, especially to Seth Scott for being a selfless wonderful and courageous human being for donating one of his kidneys to Kurtis.
We live in a wonderful, supporting community and are very grateful for that. We received so much love and prayers, and we appreciate them all. Please keep them coming for Kurt and Seth.
We also would like to thank all our family, friends, Jay County Special Olympics family, Paradise Pointe Campground family, Jay County High School athletics department, MSSL Wiring and everyone that supported us in any way.
Now for a very special man and his wonderful wife, we will be forever grateful. Seth is doing a selfless act for our son, and words can’t describe how we feel. The day he told us he was approved and ready to share a part of himself with Kurtis was one of the best days of our lives. Even if Kurt doesn’t really understand what this totally means, he will once he starts feeling great again, doesn’t have to do dialysis anymore and gets to eat some of his favorite foods again.
When the doctor told us that his kidney’s had shrunk and he would need a transplant, we just looked at him and said God is taking our family on another journey and chapter in our lives. This chapter has had its ups and downs, but it has been successful because Kurtis is still here with us and he feels good ding the home dialysis.
We would like to thank God, Dr. Pallia and U.S. Renal Care (Kathy and Emily) for the excellent care they provided.
With that being said, we are extremely excited to start our next chapter with the transplant.
Thank you again, Seth, and your wonderful, supporting family, for giving a part of you to our son. We will forever be family.
