Letter to editor was misinterpreted
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
I don’t want to let this become a firestorm between Mr. Chase and myself, but I do have to answer his interpretation of my letter to the editor.
I know many agree with what I wrote and many will agree with what Mr. Chase wrote.
But let’s face facts. Print only proven fact, not hearsay or personal judgments — as a newsperson. As an individual, you are free to say what you believe, as he and I did.
First of all, I was not saying the free press should be controlled by anyone who wishes to shut it down or muzzle it. Without free press, Mr. Chase nor myself, would have been heard. You missed the point.
With that freedom, we must be careful to print the truth, not as you or I see it, but facts — not conjecture — that are proven. All sides of the argument must be judged accordingly. And I hope all of our opinions are unbiased.
As to where I get my news, Mr. Chase, it is from a lot of different sources. And yes, I do watch Fox News, and I have to say, I hear both the liberal and the conservative view.
Granted, in telling the facts, it’s not their fault if the facts are leaning toward the conservative point of view. I know that upsets the liberals, but some of the liberals who are on the set also upset me, not because they are liberals but because they will defend their party and hide their heads in the sand even when evidence is indisputable. Some Republicans do this also.
Yes, I support, the “current resident of the White House” because he is the president. I ask all parties to give him a chance to prove himself; he could do much more if we would come together in unity to do what is best for America for a change. No other president has had so much opposition. As for it being a matter of “perspective,” why don’t you ask the workers who are prospering how they like it so far, or the people who are moving out of their parents’ and grandparents’ homes because they now have gainful employment, which will enable them to have a home for the families.
And all Americans count — Americans first — and all colors matter, not because of their color but because they are people, human beings. And because they are American citizens, they all have rights given by our constitution. And for anyone to accuse others as “racists,” you better check how many fingers are pointing back at you. I don’t know how Mr. Chase gets “racism” out of a government shutdown when it is just our elected officials playing politics as usual. And I do object to that, most heartedly. If Congress had to do without a paycheck there wouldn’t be a shutdown.
As for language used, get over it. Just because we are a free democracy, it doesn’t mean that everyone who wants to come here should be allowed to. If you want to come to American and become a citizen and make something of yourself, if you can be an asset and not a detriment, then come, but do it legally like everyone else, but accept our ways and our language. If you want to live here, like you did in your country, then you better not come here. And we cannot allow it, or there won’t be a free America for the future. And if you don’t like America, then don’t stay here. We can’t let everyone in. We have to be selective, or we will find ourselves blown to bits at some future date.
And unions, they used to be a blessing to the worker, I agree, but what have they come to? When they don’t use common sense and fairness for all, there is a problem.
No one I know wishes to “shut down” or “muzzle” the press. All that is asked is to be fair and balanced and objective. We have to stop playing people against each other, and if you can’t do that, I would suggest you do some soul searching.
