Progress requires minds to be open
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Stephen Erwin’s reply to my letter to the editor is illustrative of the intractable resistance to resolution of the debate over gun violence.
I will agree with Stephen on his charge that lies are being told. There is an abundance of prevarication employed by both sides, but like I said in my original letter: we won’t and never will accomplish a resolution by standing and shouting at one another.
We would be wise to remember that when we point a finger, there are three pointing back at us. That is why I suggested we use our ears more than our mouths.
The mind is like a book; we can’t learn anything unless and until we open it.
Michael Kinser
Portland
Thank you
To the editor:
Portland Fire Department would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that came out to the chili lunch to support us.
We had a very successful day in raising money for our awards banquet and raised enough that we will be donating to several local charities.
This is a list of people and businesses that made this day possible. Without their support, this day would not have taken place.
•Families of Portland Fire Department employees.
•WPGW.
•Richard’s Restaurant – Carla Loy.
•Vicki’s Playhouse.
•Razors Edge Beauty Salon.
•Miss Putterbaugh.
•And all the Portland firefighters who donated the chili, supplies and their time to make the day a huge success.
Sincerely,
Mike Weitzel
Portland Fire Chief
And the Portland Fire Department
