GENEVA — Sydney Willis began 2014 the same way she did the previous year.
The South Adams junior led all golfers with a 77, helping the Starfires to a fourth-place finish Wednesday in the South Adams Invitational at Golf Club of the Limberlost.
South Adams had a team score of 394, and Jay County was fifth with 424.
Bellmont posted a score of 370 to win the invitational for the second straight season. Fairfield and Fort Wayne Canterbury tied for second with 388.
Willis, a 2013 state qualifier, was 4-over par on the front nine, double-bogeying the par-4 fifth and seventh holes. She was even on the first five holes of the back nine and bogeyed the 15th and 16th before closing out her round with back-to-back pars.
Jay County sophomore Sydney Mathias led the Patriots with a 99. Brooke Sanders (104), Malarie Houck (110) and Rachel Antrim (111) rounded out the Patriots’ team score.
Also scoring for the Starfires were Amy Schwartz (104), Alleigh Wingler (105) and Kelli Lehman (108).

Fort tops Parkway
CELINA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery girls golf team opened its 2014 campaign with a 12-stroke victory Wednesday over Parkway at the Mercer County Elks Golf Club.

Tori Vaughn earned match medalist honors with a 52, leading the Tribe to a team score of 220. Parkway scored 232.
Emily Bruns, Kelli Keller and Cori Stone all finished within two strokes of each other, posting scores of 55, 56 and 57 respectively.
Trisha Thien (60) and Sophie Timmerman (92) also competed for the Indians.

Tribe 2nd at invite
CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys golfers began their season with a second-place finish Wednesday in the Midwest Boys Invitational at Mercer County Elks.
St. Mary’s had a team score of 336 to win the invitational, 23 strokes ahead of Fort Recovery.
Chase Bruns paved the way for the Indians, posting a score of 82. Jackson Hobbs shot an 89 in his first varsity match, and Derek Backs had a 92.
Micaiah Cox rounded out Fort Recovery’s team score with a 95.
Also competing for the Tribe were Cole Wendel (96) and Nick Litmer (102).
