AS I SEE IT

Columnist bids farewell

Goodbye, so long, farewell, adieu and thank you, until we meet again. It has been an adventure these last few years, but everything must end. This is my final column.

Christmas cards are becoming outdated

That’s done. The Christmas cards are in the mail. I usually like sending Christmas cards. It is a way for me to touch base with people I don’t see often. I am one of the few people who actually like getting those over the top letters telling me that their …

Christmas season is now in full swing

The Christmas presents are showing up on our doorstep and in the mailbox. It seems that most of the shopping this year has been done at that great gift warehouse online.

Christmas season is finally here

I was planning to finish unearthing the Christmas decorations this past weekend. The gloomy, wet weather disagreed and welded me to the couch instead.

Selecting good gifts can be stressful

What do you want for Christmas?

There’s much to be thankful for this year

Some parts of life may be difficult, but there is always something to be thankful for.

Niece defied the odds, pursued dream

I would like to introduce you to my niece, Margaret. She is the youngest of three girls. Her mom, Sue, is my hubby’s sister. I recently read a message from her on social media. It began by saying that after more than 19 years she had finally paid off her …

Hit the polls, your vote really counts

Today is election day so be sure to vote. I generally vote for the loser but every once in a while my person wins. Many of us don’t think our vote counts but the voting booth is the one place where we are all equal. A poor person’s opinion counts …

Autumn is wonderful time of year

Fall is possibly my favorite time of year. The air is no longer heavy, instead it is crisp and cool, beckoning me to go outside. The leaves have begun to fall.

Card prompted memories from the past

was looking through some stuff the other day and found an old Christmas card. It was signed, “Votre ancienne maitresse, Marie.”

We all have our problems

Some people lose the new pots they just bought. Some people just had surgery. Everyone has their own problems to deal with.

Don’t mix Christmas and Halloween

We were walking through a home improvement store last week in search of potting soil. I was surprised to see a display of Christmas decorations across the aisle from the Halloween decorations.

Heritage Festival made the weekend

It was the perfect weekend for the annual Heritage Festival in Portland, Indiana. It was held at the Historical Museum. There were various activities for people to try such as old fashioned games and a set of stilts that very few could master.

It becomes important to leave reminder

It sounded so simple. The plan was to dig up the peony and move it over a few feet so that it was no longer in the shade. I also intended to divide it and put part of it in one of the flowerbeds. I estimated that it would take …
