Tractor show begins Wednesday

The 49th Annual Antique Engine and Tractor Show will begin Wednesday at the Jay County Fairgrounds in Portland and continue through Sunday, Aug. 24.
Featured this year will be Ford-Fordson tractors, that are 25 years old or older, and Iowa engines.
There will be more than 150 antique dealers, 50 craft dealers, 3,000 engines, 800 tractors, a trading post and tractor parts dealers.
Entertainment will include Red Garter Trio on Wednesday in the Farmer’s Building; The Classics in the grandstands and The Green River Boys in the Farmer’s Building on Thursday; Mandy Neff in the Farmer’s Building and a tractor pull in the grandstands on Friday; a banjo and fiddler contest on Saturday; and a church service with the Christianaires on Sunday.
Food will be available and admission is $5, $2 for students and children 12 and younger are free.

Classes at John Jay
Fall classes will soon begin at John Jay Center for Learning, 101 S. Meridian St., in Portland.
Orientation for the High School Equivalency (H.S.E.) diploma will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 25.
Classes will meet each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The fall semester for Ivy Tech Community College begins Monday, Aug. 25. Classes will be offered in IVYT 101 and English 111.
Ivy Tech Corporate College will offer a ServSafe class from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, to earn Indiana Department of Health food handling certification.
Also offered by Ivy Tech Corporate College, will be the OSHA General Industry Outreach Training from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25, and Friday, Sept. 26. The class is for entry-level workers and teaches general guidelines for overcoming health and safety obstacles in the workplace. The cost is $255.
Purdue University College of Technology will teach an Applied Leadership class from 5:30 to 8 p.m., beginning Tuesday, Aug. 26, and continuing each Tuesday through Dec. 9.
Also offered by Purdue will be Human Behavior in Organizations, beginning Monday, Oct. 20, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and continuing each Monday and Wednesday through Wednesday, Dec. 10.
Vincennes University will offer a Dental Assisting Training Program with Dental Radiographer Certification beginning Tuesday and continuing each Tuesday through Dec. 16.
Jay County Chamber of Commerce and JJCL will have a ‘Building Your Brand and Image’ Seminar from 8 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10. Learn to recognize your brand and image, develop it and use it to keep your business separate from the competition.
Indiana Electrician Journeyman’s Test Preparation, for anyone working as an electrician, will be offered to help prepare for the State Licensing Exam.

Summer Stage Fest at Minnetrista in Muncie will present Picnic & Pops with Muncie Symphony Orchestra at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27.
There is no charge. The evening is sponsored by George & Frances Ball Foundation and First Merchants Trust.
