Jay Co. golfers fall to Bearcats

MUNCIE — The Patriots shot a season-low as a team, but couldn’t top Muncie Central in a 180-214 loss Thursday to the host Bearcats at Crestview Golf Club.
Brooke Sanders shot a 49 as Jay County’s top golfer. Sydney Mathias, Maddison Baughn and Malarie Houck posted scores of 54, 55 and 56 respectively.
Rachel Antrim also competed for the Patriots (1-2), turning in a round of 64.
Sanders, Baughn and Houck also had their lowest scores of the season.
The junior varsity Patriots also lost to the Bearcats, 230-220.
Gracie Runkle had a team-low 55, with Alyssa Culy (57) and Abby Saxman (58) close behind. Sydney Robbins shot a 60 and Madison Brown had a 64.
Tribe tops at invite
VAN WERT, Ohio — A pair of juniors led the Fort Recovery boys golf team to a first-place finish Thursday at the Lancer Invitational at Hickory Sticks Golf Club.
Chase Bruns and Jackson Hobbs both shot 81, leading the Indians to a team score of 337 and first place in the seven-team tournament.
Host Lincolnview was second with 346, and Miller City was third with 364.
Derek Backs (86) and Nick Litmer (89) were the No. 3 and No. 4 golfers for Fort Recovery.
Bruns, Hobbs and Litmer posted season-best scores for 18 holes, as the Indians took 11 strokes off their lowest score of the season.
It was the first tournament win for the Indians after finishing runner-up in their first two of the season.
Fort wins opener
ROCKFORD — Fort Recovery’s girls golf team opened its Midwest Athletic Conference schedule with a win Thursday, edging Parkway 213-216 at Deerfield Golf Course.
Trisha Thien and Tori Vaughn turned in their best scores of the season at 47 and 49 respectively. Emily Bruns shot a 58 and Elli Keller was one stroke behind.
Cori Stone also competed for the Indians, and shot a 62.
Fort Recovery moves to 4-0 (1-0 MAC) in nine-hole matches this season.
