Hazardous materials course to be offered

Jay County Emergency Management and the Jay County Local Emergency Planning Council is offering a Hazardous Materials Refresher Course on Saturday, Sept. 13.
The course will take place from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Jay County Courthouse Auditorium.
The organizations are also offering a Hazmat Awareness and Hazmat Operations Fire/IDHS approved level class on Oct. 11 and 12 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. There is no charge for Jay County first responders.

Receives scholarship
Brayden L. Dues, Portland, was awarded a $14,000 Academic Achievement Scholarship and a $4,000 Gateway Grant from Wilmington (Ohio) College.
Dues is a 2014 graduate of Jay County High School, where he played football and was a member of the National Honor Society and FFA. He is the son of Rick and Beth Dues.
He plans to major in agronomy at Wilmington.
