Jay Co. golfers edge Union

MUNCIE — The Jay County High School girls golf team is above .500 for the first time this season.
Malarie Houck scored a 51 as the top score for Jay County (3-2) in a 212-213 win Tuesday over the Union Rockets at Maplewood Golf Club.
It was the second straight match Houck had the best score for Jay County.
Sydney Mathias and Brooke Sanders both turned in rounds of 52.
Abby Saxman, who was playing in her first varsity match this season, shot a 55 to round out the Patriots’ team score.
Maddison Baughn (57) and Sydney Robbins (63) also competed for Jay County.
Patriots drop opener
RICHMOND — The Richmond Red Devils scored two goals in each half Tuesday, handing the Jay County girls soccer team a 4-0 loss in the season opener for both teams.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lilly Rogers had 20 saves.
The Patriot junior varsity team was also blanked by the Red Devils, 4-0.
Jay County returns home Thursday against Heritage for its first game in the Allen County Athletic Conference.
Tribe boys fifth
ST. HENRY, Ohio — Two Fort Recovery boys cross country runners finished in the top 20 as the Indians ran to a fifth place finish Tuesday in the Mercer County Invitational at St. Henry.
Sophomore Travis Sutter crossed the finish line in 18 minutes, 49.4 seconds for 11th place, and Isaac Siegrist was less than a minute later in 17th.
Harrison Kaup and Sam Huelskamp finished back-to-back in 55th and 56th respectively, and Eddie Hemmert placed 66th.
Results for the girls team were not available.
FRMS boys third
ST. HENRY, Ohio — The Fort Recovery Middle School boys squad finished in third place in the Mercer County Invitational.
Drew Muhlenkamp and Jared Timmerman placed fifth and sixth respectively. Mitchell Metzger was 24th, with teammates Josh Gonzalez and Cameron Romer following him in 25th and 26th.
Hannah Heitkamp and Chloe Will placed third and fourth for the FRMS girls, who did not qualify for a team score.
Elise Gehle was 19th, and Courtney Metzger finished in 22nd.
