Registrations being taken for art classes

Fall and winter arts classes are being offered at Arts Place in Portland, and a new exhibit is set to begin later this month.
Session 1 classes begin Monday, Sept. 8, session 2 classes begin Monday, Nov. 3, session three classes begin Jan. 12 and session four classes begin March 30. All sessions are six weeks long.
Hand building clay with Mary Boetgger will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays for those 13 and older. The class will teach the three basic hand building techniques — coil, pinch and slab. Boxes, pots, plates and other items will be made. The cost is $95.
Wheel throwing with Boetgger will be held from 5 to 7 p .m. on Mondays for those 13 and older. Basic techniques and glazing will be taught and bowls, plates, mugs, vases and lidded containers will be made. The cost is $95.
A toddler art class with Ashley Austerman will be held from 4:30 to 5 p.m. during sessions one and three for pre-kindergarten through five years old and their parents or grandparents. The cost is $25.
Teen clay sculpture with Ashley Austerman will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursdays during sessions one and three for those ages 12 to 18. Students will learn how to create clay sculptures and use the slab technique. The cost is $50.
Teen drawing and painting with Ashley Austerman will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Mondays during sessions two and four for those ages 12 to 18. Students will learn basic painting and coloring techniques. The cost is $50.
Oil painting with Steve McClung will be offered from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays. McClung will teach how to create realistic landscapes and color mixing.
Silk painting with Barbie Stump will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday during session 2. Silk painting is the process of applying a dye or thinned paint to silk. The cost is $90.
Watercolor with Barbie Stump will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays during session 1. The cost is $90.
Egg tempura with Barbie Stump will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays during session 4. The class will teach how to mix pigments into pastes, adding egg yolk to temper the paste, and applying layering and glazing techniques. The cost is $95.
Wine basket weaving with Wilma Rigby will be offered Wednesday, Sept. 24, and Friday, Sept. 26. The cost is $50.
Card making with Heidi Bouse will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 15 and April 8, to learn scrapbooking and paper craft techniques to make holiday or birthday cards. The cost is $5.
Balloon art with Christina Williamson will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Oct. 3 and Dec. 5 to learn the art of balloon twisting. The cost is $10.
Artist Julia Wickes will have her display “Visual Stories” at Arts Place beginning Thursday, Aug. 28.
Wickes is from Bedford and paints portraits and landscapes with acrylic on canvas
