Pallet fire
Redkey, Dunkirk and Albany fire departments responded to a fire Wednesday in rural Redkey.
Redkey Fire Department responded to a call for a pallet fire at 10907 W. 600 South at 11:17 a.m. They arrived on the scene at 11:21 a.m. and had the fire under control by approximately 11:45 a.m. A tanker, two engines and 14 firefighters from Redkey were assisted by Dunkirk and Albany fire departments.
The fire is believed to have started when trash being burned nearby caught the pallets on fire. The fire is estimated to have destroyed 40 pallets.
Head on collision
A Redkey man was involved in a collision Wednesday evening in Richland Township.
Dillion Staver, 20, 120 E. Delaware St., was traveling northwest on county road 650 South near county road 1000 West on his 2014 Suzuki LTZ400, when he took a curve at a high speed for the road. The ATV went off the road and traveled 30 feet before coming to a rest.
Staver was ejected from the ATV. Though he was wearing a helmet, it landed about 20 feet away from where he landed.
Jay County Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene, and Staver was transported to the hospital with a femur fracture.
Damage in the 6:05 p.m. accident was estimated to be less than $1,000.
Theft reported
A Portland woman reported a theft recently to Portland Police Department.
Amber Snyder, 160 E. Third St., told officers her medication had been stolen.
The theft was reported at 9:07 p.m. Wednesday.
