MONROEVILLE — Alex Abbott scored his third goal in two games Thursday, but the Jay County High School boys soccer team lost to conference rival Heritage, 2-1.
Abbott scored his game-tying goal 11:23 into the second on an indirect free kick from David Fernandez.
Heritage scored the game-winning goal in the 65th minute.
Zach Chaney had 10 saves in goal for Jay County (0-1-1, 0-1 Allen County Athletic Conference) and Nathan Hamilton had three saves.
Brent Englehardt surrendered the game-winner after Chaney was given a red card.
Willis, Stars win
GENEVA — Sydney Willis fired a 1-over 36 to earn match medalist honors as the South Adams girls golf team placed first Thursday at Golf Club of the Limberlost.
South Adams took the three-way meet with a 186. Fort Wayne North Side was second with 261 and South Side was third with a 294.
Alleigh Wingler posted the No. 2 score with a 49. Jaci Gorrell and Kelli Lehman were close behind with a 50 and 51 respectively. Catlyn Hofstetter also competed for the Starfires (1-1), turning in a round of 57.
