ST. MARYS, Ohio — Fort Recovery and Memorial went back and forth through the first three quarters Saturday.
The Indians pulled away in the fourth.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team capitalized on eight turnovers in the fourth quarter to beat the host Memorial Roughriders, 43-31.
Leading 31-29 heading into the final period, the Indians (1-0) went on an eight-point run thanks to four free throws by junior Kendra Siefring and a 3-pointer by Jocelyn Kaiser.
Rachel Meier made the only bucket of the fourth quarter for the Roughriders (0-1), who attemped just four field goals in the final period and shot 24 percent for the game.
Kaiser made the front end of a one-and-one, and Tori Lennartz assisted on a bucket by Whitney Will to push the Tribe’s lead to the eventual final score with 2:59 left to play.
Siefring and Lennartz led the Indians with 12 and 10 points respectively, as Siefring went 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. Grace Thien tallied nine points, and Cassidy Rammel chipped in with six points.
