Chief girls rout Woodlan

Middle school roundup

WOODBURN — The Warriors were no match for the East Jay Middle School eighth grader girls basketball.
Klarissa Hemmelgarn scored 18 points and Kendra Muhlenkamp added 11 in the Chiefs’ 63-22 victory Thursday over Woodlan.
The seventh graders fell 34-17.
Hannah Phillips scored eight points for the EJMS eighth graders, who move to 4-1 on the season. Hanna Dillon chipped in with seven points and Gwen Omstead and Clare Dirksen had six points each.
Shadie Canterbury led the seventh grade Chiefs with six points and Mikele Suman tallied five points. Mackynzie Fairchild had four points.

East Jay boys split
The East Jay seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams split a home matchup with Woodlan on Thursday.
East Jay’s eighth graders doubled up the Warriors, 48-24, while the seventh graders lost 37-26.
Ryan and Michael Schlecthy scored 12 and 11 points respectively to lead the EJMS eighth graders, who move to 2-2 on the season. Elijah Corwin and Gavin Randall had five points each, and Parker Grimes and Brandon McIntire added four points apiece.
Gabe Link totaled eight points for the seventh grade Chiefs. Noah Arbuckle tallied six points, and Sheldon Upp and Brandon Cramer each had four points.

Eagles fall short
SELMA — West Jay’s eighth grade boys basketball team fell short in a 53-49, triple overtime loss to the Selma Braves on Thursday.
The seventh grade Eagles also lost, 56-23.
Gabe Faulkner scored a team-high 21 points to lead West Jay.
Farlow sets records

BERNE — Cady Farlow continues to rewrite the record books.
The South Adams High School senior set two new school records in the Starfire’s 102-83 victory against Celina.
South Adams’ boys lost, 99-22.
Farlow, a Purdue commit, broke a 19-year-old mark set in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.1 seconds. She also broke her own record in the 100 freestyle in 54.92 seconds.
Ashton and Brette Klopp were also dual-event winners for the Starfire girls. Ashton took first in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle, and Brette was victorious in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke.
Olivia Von Gunten also earned a victory in the 500 freestyle, her first win of the season.
Daniel Burson picked up a pair of wins, placing first in both the 200 and 500 freestyle. David Steffen also won for the boys in the 200 individual medley.
The Starfire girls took first in the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay.
South Adams’ boys won the 200 freestyle relay.

Stars rout Owls
MUNCIE — The Starfires got out to an early 14-3 lead after eight minutes.
They ran away with the game in the middle quarters.
The South Adams girls basketball team scored 22 points in each of the second and third quarters in a 69-27 road victory against the Burris Owls Thursday.
South Adams (3-2) held the Owls (2-4) to single digits in three of the four quarters.
Cindy In’t Groen led all scorers with 18 points. Mackenzie Jennings totaled 14 points, and Sydney Willis added 11.
Lexi Dellinger followed with six points, as all 10 Starfires scored at least two points.
