Fort coach gets honor

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The accolades keep rolling in for Fort Recovery High School’s historic football season.
Coach Brent Niekamp was named Division VII co-Coach of the Year by the Associated Press. Eric Meek of Toronto and Terry Holbert of Millersport shared the honor.
In his 10th season, Niekamp led the Indians to the first playoff berth and playoff victory. He coached the Tribe to a program-best 7-5 record, and a 4-4 mark in the Midwest Athletic Conference, tying the 2007 team for most conference wins in a season.
Wes Wenning was given special mention all-Division VII honors. The junior caught 46 passes for 747 yards. His eight touchdowns ranks third on the school’s single-season list.

Three Starfires honored
INDIANAPOLIS — Three Starfires earned all-state honors in Class A for their efforts on the gridiron.
Junior Drew LeFever was named first-team all-state by the Associated Press as a linebacker. LeFever anchored a defense that beat the defending state champions Tri-Central and advanced to the semi-state for the first time in nearly two decades.
Seniors Kyle Cox (defensive back) and Conner Sealscott (offensive line) were given honorable mention.
Farlow sets records
BERNE — Cady Farlow continues to rewrite the record books.
The South Adams High School senior set two new school records in the Starfire’s 102-83 victory against Celina.
South Adams’ boys lost, 99-22.
Farlow, a Purdue commit, broke a 19-year-old mark set in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.1 seconds. She also broke her own record in the 100 freestyle in 54.92 seconds.
Ashton and Brette Klopp were also dual-event winners for the Starfire girls. Ashton took first in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle, and Brette was victorious in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke.
Olivia Von Gunten also earned a victory in the 500 freestyle, her first win of the season.
Daniel Burson picked up a pair of wins, placing first in both the 200 and 500 freestyle. David Steffen also won for the boys in the 200 individual medley.
The Starfire girls took first in the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay.
South Adams’ boys won the 200 freestyle relay.

Stars rout Owls
MUNCIE — The Starfires got out to an early 14-3 lead after eight minutes.
They ran away with the game in the middle quarters.
The South Adams girls basketball team scored 22 points in each of the second and third quarters in a 69-27 road victory against the Burris Owls Thursday.
South Adams (3-2) held the Owls (2-4) to single digits in three of the four quarters.
Cindy In’t Groen led all scorers with 18 points. Mackenzie Jennings totaled 14 points, and Sydney Willis added 11.
Lexi Dellinger followed with six points, as all 10 Starfires scored at least two points.
