Jay Co. ninth in Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio — Four Patriots finished in the top four Saturday as the Jay County High School wrestling team placed ninth in the Franklin Invitational in Dayton, Ohio.
Campbell County (Ky.) won as a team with 300 points. Dayton Christian scored 284 points for second, and Western Brown was third with 250. Jay County scored 149 points.
Levi Hummel finished second in the 170-pound weight division, and Andy Kohler was third at 182.
Ivan Hemmelgarn and Tyler Leonhard were fourth at 145 and 152 respectively.
Chris Pfeifer (HWT) was fifth, and Dallas Dudelston (132) placed sixth.

Redskins top Tribe
WAPAKONETA, Ohio — The Indians had a difficult time making shots Saturday afternoon.
The Redskins hardly missed in the second half.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team shot 36 percent from the field in the final 16 minutes in a 42-31 loss to the host Wapakoneta Redskins.
Tori Lennartz had 11 points, and Jocelyn Kaiser had nine for Fort Recovery (2-1). Kendra Siefring added four, and Grace Thien chipped in with three.
Wapakoneta’s Carly Buzzard led all scorers with 13 points.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team won 35-27.
Carley Stone totaled a game-high 16 points and Claire Metzger tallied six.

Tribe girls third
CELINA — Fort Recovery’s girls swim team placed third Saturday in the Celina 50s Sprints.
The Tribe boys tied for seventh out of 13 teams.
Carley Stone earned top-10 finishes for the Indians in the backstroke (third), freestyle (fifth) and butterfly (10th). Her older sister Cori was fifth in the butterfly, eighth in backstroke and 14th in freestyle.
Sophie Timmerman finished sixth in the breaststroke, and Alexis Bubp placed 13th and 16th respectively in the butterfly and breaststroke.
Mackinley Timmerman was fourth in the breaststroke to earn the only points for the Tribe boys.

Stars rally
BERNE — The South Adams girls basketball team overcame a fourth-quarter deficit Saturday to beat the visiting Heritage Patriots 53-48.
Heritage (3-4, 0-2 Allen County Athletic Conference) had a 40-36 lead to begin the final period, but the Starfires (4-2, 1-1 ACAC) outscored the Patriots 17-8 in the final eight minutes to even their conference record.
Sydney Willis led all players with 24 points, tying her season high. It is the third time this season the junior has surpassed 20 points.
Cindy In’t Groen followed Willis with 15 points, and Lexi Dellinger had seven. Mackenzie Jennings added six points for the Starfires.
